Opened up Tracktion NFR last nite and it had stopped working. There was no ASIO driver recognised - tried a few times but no joy.

Chainer (stand-alone) was okay.

EXT (demo) was okay.

Logic 5.5 was okay.

But Tracktion (NFR) was dead. In the audio settings there was no ASIO driver in the list... Weird..

Tried re-installing and it worked at first, but when I loaded a different project, BANG..! It went again.

It's been running fine since I got it a few months ago, but now it's dead. The only thing that's changed on my system recently is Paax 2 sampler - just installed the latest version in the Tracktion plugins folder.

This is the free version of Tracktion on a WIN98 machine - Pentium IV 2.4 - 512 RAM - Audigy 2 with Creative drivers (I know, but no choice at the moment).

Does the free version have a 'time out' restriction that Mackie didn't tell me about..?

Has anyone else experienced this..?

HELP..!!

try making a backup of your .tracktionsettings file that sits in the tracktion directory... then delete the original and restart Tracktion (you'll lose your presets... thus the backup, but it'll create a new settings file). There are no time restrictions with the NFR version. It *might* fix something.

Well, when I re-installed it, I did un-install and delete all Tracktion files first, so I guess I was starting from sctatch. But, like I said, the problem came back after trying to change projects.

However, I'll install it again and try your idea - It's worth a shot.

Thanks for your reply.

I think that there are actually 2 0r 3 different settings files for Tracktion. Perhaps you missed the one in the "Application Data" folder.

Did you delete this file...

C:\Documents and Settings\<your name here>\Application Data\Tracktion\settings

Or the one (or 2) that are in the Tracktion root program folder?

Ooh... Thanks for that info John. I didn't even look there. Will try it tonight.

Cheers.

No. Not yet.

I'm still gonna try to bring it back to life. But if I don't succeed, I'm gonna bloody-well cremate the bastard.

On Win98 there is no folder called:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your name here>\Application Data\Tracktion\settings

But there is one called: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Tracktion
And that's where the settings file hangs out on 98.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

try also removing paax2 from your plugin folder and restarting tracktion ... just in case ...

People still use Windows 98?

Ummm: yeah. I've been using a P2/450Mhz Win98 machine for my studio PC for about 18 months, since we finally replaced it as the family desktop. Using CMuzys, ACID Pro 4.0, Jazz++ and a few other things on it. I'm moving over to a new P4 / WinXP-Home for music, but will clean out the old machine and re-establish it as a dual-boot Win98 / Linux machine. No point in buying a new OS for it when I've got a Win98SE license and it'll be more than sufficient for what I might do with it in the future (e.g., LP to CD-R conversions).
