How reliable would buzz be if I only intend to use Matilde and Polac VST loader (which I already know is really good). Should I really encounter any instability issues? I need the mad 09 offset sample killer! comments? :)

do you mean in live applications? or studio use?

Its not the most stable host, but good enough for studio use

shit. its plenty stable for studio use, with way more than just the matilde and polac machines running.

that reminds me... I have work to do.

just make sure that you save what you're doing before and after you make any changes and NEVER try to load a new machine while the track is playing.

No loading plugins (machines) during playback is hardly a sign of a 'plenty stable' host. I like Buzz and would probably use it if I felt I could trust it not to crash and/or fail to load song files at a later date. However, I have found during my own playing with it, that it is unreliable and I just don't have any faith in it's stability (or lack thereof).

ModuLR: why not just use Renoise? You can load VST's and use the sample offset command; in my experience Renoise is a more reliable host than Buzz...

NOTE: Before any Buzz acolytes accuse me of Renoise bias or whatever, I don't use Renoise as my host of choice either, although it is for reasons other than stability that this is the case...

Does Psycle's internal sampler support 09xx sample offset command!? Might be worth a look

I have renoise... and I love it, but Buzz's multi-pattern abilities make it absolutely tops. I'm an oldskool IT tracker, but now a days I only really need it to create chopped percussive elements. Buzz really lets you play around with that by adding/subtracting multiple patterns. I had no intetion of using anything outside of Matilde (or maybe unweildy tracker) and polac (mind you, my VST collection is very minimal... I only use a handful of plugins). Ultimately it's just to generate source material for Tracktion/eXT.

I was just wondering if in using such a minimal buzz setup, should I still expect crashes? :) crashing just kinda throws my whole rhythm off when using a tracker...

It's the lack of multipattern sequencing that is my reason for not using Renoise...hopefully they will sort this out soon :)

You will probably be alright just using the Matilde tracker and Polac (perhaps removing all machines from Buzz except those that you are going to use will help increase stability further). My main problem with Buzz was that sometimes a song would crash as I loaded it, even though it loaded fine the day before...sometimes it would reload again at another time. It's quirks like this that make me uncomfortable with a host and generally engender a lack of confidence in the 'safety' of my work. With your proposed minimal setup, you will likely be fine...

Saving a lot in different files is all you can do. Plus use only the machines you want and know are stable, Just delete the others. Samplegrid is a nice machine to have too. good for drums.

that's nice. my experience is otherwise. in my experience, Buzz is 'plenty stable'.

thanks for sharing.

Mod- Haven't read the whole thread but those two machines are fine. There are a few out there that will cause problems though.
These basic machines are also stable and great:
COmbo delay
blue filter, green filter etc.
stereo box pro
All the reverbs
Peer chord
Peer Controler
Peer state
Peer LFO (Peer env gives me problems)
Stutter
808, 909

I've been using buzz for years and do expereience problems where if I open buzz it will close right away. This is usually because of a machine (usually effects that I remove when I find) that was fine before and crashes buzz maybe years later :( (ruins songs that have those machines).

I AGREE WHOLE-HEARTEDLY!

Renoise and Buzz are the 2 best free sequencer hosts that I'm aware of, and I have used them both extensively & nowadays exclusively!

They each complement one-another's drawbacks; but on the whole, Renoise certainly contains fewer drawbacks than Buzz (or any fully-fledged host for that matter!)

eXT has become popular nowadays. I am planning to try it out soon; probably today. I've read 3 seperate threads on this forum alone, all extoling the virtues of using eXT within Renoise... so apparently the 2 progs work well together!
