just so ya don't think i'm some young punk dissin sumpin he don't get.....

i've listened to many styles of music since i was a baby. my brother had an eclectic collection. i got a record player at 4. i listened to his records. i've explored many styles through songwriting. i started recording my songs at 14. when i mentioned that i wrote music, ppl would ask what kind. i replied "all kinds". I had the same answer when asked what i listened to. my friends were music freaks and we traded albums. i listened to ANY radio station. I shopped used album stores for things i hadn't heard. i'd get a pile and spend an hour at a turntable auditioning them. i shopped discount bins for obscure bands. i've run around the net checkin out amateur artists. after all that tasting, i've developed a very narrow taste.

i'm 38 btw

Cool. :-D A while back someone did a vinyl record (LP? single? I forget) that had two grooves on one side, so you might get either of two songs/sequences of songs depending on which groove "caught" the needle first.

Oh -- sorry, squire, the record stuck sorry, squire the record stuck sorry, squire etc.

androidlove: S'okay, narrow or broad taste -- everyone's got to form their own and I can't tell you "you MUST like what I like!"

Given that your prefs are narrow, it's just going to be that much tougher for you to locate stuff you enjoy hearing, that's all. Unless the genres you like happen to hit it big, that is. In that case you'll be in the catbird seat.

A lot of the Detroit Techno I listen to [ObOnTopic: and love] used to be pressed at a plant called NSC. They used to come up with all kinds of tricks: Double grooves like the one you mentioned, locked grooves, backwards-running grooves (so the needle would almost fall off the record after it was done), and sometimes a combination of these techniquies on one record. Really cool, if a bit confusing at times.

I never wanted a spinning top
I used to swing a riding crop
I never wanted a stupid doll
I used to swing a tomahawk
And then I saw him and I was won
Godzilla, King Kong

Godzilla
He trashes cars
Godzilla
He's not from Mars
Godzilla
He'll knock you down
Godzilla
He eats big towns

I like the way he jumps up and down
I like the way he shakes the ground
He's even better when he's annoyed
He breaths out fire and makes this noise

I'd like to hold him in my arms
I'd never let him come to harm

Godzilla
He trashes cars
Godzilla
He's not from Mars
Godzilla
He'll knock you down
Godzilla
He eats big towns

Godzilla
Ha
Godzilla
Ha

What is that?
What is this?
A giant Monster
But he's so sweet!

When I'm in Tokyo or Japan
I'm always thinking its his land
The other toys are second best
Godzilla, I love him best

Godzilla
He trashes cars
Godzilla
He's not from Mars
Godzilla
He'll knock you down
Godzilla
He eats the towns
Godzilla
He trashes cars
Godzilla
He's not from Mars
Godzilla
He'll knock you down

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say he’s got to go
Go go godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes tokyo
Go go godzilla, yeah

Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Godzilla ga ginza hoomen e mukatte imasu!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!

Oh no, they say he’s got to go
Go go godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes tokyo
Go go godzilla, yeah

History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men
Godzilla!

All existance is an aspect of the void. To love or hate is futile, for one day the veil of flesh will be pulled aside...

The "Birthday" 12" by Sugarcubes was like that. The first time I played it I heard the normal 12" version, which starts with a drum hit. The next 10-15 times I hit the other groove, and played a version that started with a low droney Jesus and Mary Chain guitar. I smoked an awful lot of dope in those days, and blamed that, until suddenly - PAFF, there was the drum again. That really freaked me out.

Very cool.
