Doe's anybody have any opinions about the quality of the effects included in the Korg Legacy Collection?
Are they worth buying?

i wouldn't buy it for just the effects but the synths do sound very good to me

to clarify my comment, i actually only have the mde-x effects part of legacy collection (came with my microkontrol controller) and i haven't had much use for it except for the polysix ensemble fx which i like a lot. AFAIR the reverb was very nice for some synth stuff too.
i wasn't so convinced i'd want to get the legacy collection after toying with the mde-x but trying out the collection demos i was pleasantly surprised, the synths do sound very good. too bad there seems to be no upgrade route to mkontrol owners.

You could view MDE-X as a higher quality bigger brother of Luxonix' LFX.
I don't mean to put down LFX in any way, it's an excellent package indeed and in use. Just trying to make an analogy of some sort.
MDE-X is above the average effects, no matter how you compare them. Nothing stellar, you're likely to find a better alternative for each effect type, but at what cost? Not to mention some of the effects are great, such as the phaser and the ensemble.
Reverbs are more than useful and the delays as well (I'm still waiting for VST plugin makers to catch up with delays that were standard on workstation synths 10 years ago - cross delays, LCR delays etc. preferably under one roof along with multitaps and so on, as in 'one plugin with several options for delay types')...
Overall, it's a good package. And as they're available to process what ever you want to process... you could view it like this: you can hunt down a bunch of freeware to find "equivalents", or use MDE-X and enjoy Korg's knowledge and experience in this area. Or you could spend an awful amount of money on getting superior alternatives.

Yep, that's pretty much what I mean 
They are rather nice indeed.
The reverbs are ok, especially with synth sounds. For vocals or other really delicate material where the quality of the reverb is really exposed, I'd get a better plugin though. (Of course, chain two or three MDE-X reverbs together, parallel or serial, and it stands up nicely against most reverbs... a simple trick that works wonders with all reverb plugins)

yup, i think it's like a decent workstation synth's fx section - that nailed it down pretty well. i agree that the general quality is much better than most of the built-in fx that i've come across in vstis but compared to good separate fx plugins they're just ok.

I'd say so. Chaining together different reverbs tends to mask problems in each reverb nicely. Plus you'll get a little bit thicker sound, something different and new.
You should really try it, chaining together some of the simple free reverbs usually results in something rather good and useful

I'm quite fond of the MDE-X effects, and I use them frequently. From what I can tell they're almost identical to the effect section on my Triton, and true multi-FX are hard to come by in software (besides the aforementioned LFX). The whole Korg suite is top-notch. I hope we get to see more from Korg in the future!
