i am a guitar player who's looking for a way to use vst effects and record my guitar parts and also import and edit samples. are there any freeware/shareware programs i can use? i'm considering programs like energyxt, renoise, tu2, audacity, audiosuite and ambiloop. i'm not looking to use midi right now but might in the future.

Krystal seems to be the most feature-rich freebie that I've seen, and it sounds like exactly what you're asking for.

As in loops and snippest of audio? Yep. It's audio only though, no midi. But it appears to be pretty feature-rich from what I've seen. Since it's free it's at least worth a tryheffus wrote:can i use samples with krystal?

I don't know Krystal, but you could always just copy/paste as many segments as you need.

You may also like buzz to set up asio and rout it though vst/buzz effects. It is all modular and is free. Don't look to it for audio editing though because it sucks. Get audicity which is free for that.
