A quick question, is there any difference between using a VST, DX or DXI plugin? By this I mean when you have a plugin that comes in two different formats (or maybe more) what would people recommend as the best format to use? Is there any difference or not?
BTW I'm using FLStudio 5.

I say use what seems to work best in yer particular setup. Each format has its advantages, but it all depends on the host you use. With FL studio I would say that VSTs are usually more compatible than DX in some cases. In something like Sonar or Project 5, I recommend using Dx efx/instrumetns. I persoannly like not having to organize a VST folder and would rather have a Dxi install itself and not have to worry about the path. Its all personal preference tho.

I just wondered if there was any performence difference between them, I guess if there was then that would be down to the individual plugin and not a general rule.
Could you list the advantages of the formats?

VST uses a more direct way to process audio, whereas DX is blown up by the whole multimedia stuff. For example VST uses 32 float format for audio processing, but for DX it depends on the host/plugin. The conversation between the formats is simple and fast, but that is a performance issue.
On the other hand VST can process more information other than audio (tempo, etc.). This blow up the process call as well.
So, from a technical aspect, i would prefer VST plugins. At least, if you have a plugin in both formats!

Christian
