MW: Yes indeed.

Furlan: I'm not jumping on your case. Just want to see things get straightened out so others don't suffer the same troubles.

Yes, I am using IE. What is the "bug" that allows infection just by visiting a website? As for whether it is possible that the problem was there and I just didn't know about it, I don't have an answer. I did not recently download from any website other than from links posted in the thread. The only websites I visited are other computer music forums, such as NorthernSounds, the Kontakt forum and the East West forum, but I did not download anything from those sites.

I'd definitely recommend switching from IE, which is a mass of bugs and security flaws with a MS logo slapped over them, to Mozilla Firefox. I use IE only for testing web pages to be sure my CSS and HTML render correctly. For everything else, it's Firefox -- both in Windows and in Linux.

Want to improve your email security too? If you use OE, get rid of it and install Mozilla Thunderbird. I wouldn't dare to expose my system to the risks Outlook Express opens up... never have done.

I never go online to the evil internet - it's just dangerous.

I'm sorry if its looking like trolling. Its not. I've got better things to do.

As far as links go, I did not download anything from any of the replies. I only downloaded from the initial post. I only downloaded links marked "F" (=free) and "V" (=VST).

Upon reviewing the list this morning, I believe I may have downloaded Conrete FX Q Amp (its a ".zip" file and it did not take me to a web page), Rokman (also a ".zip" file that did not take me to a web page), Grease Tube, X-Amp, G-Amp Phat, Voxengo Boogex, Cortex, and Free Amp SE. I cannot say with 100% certainty that this is an exhaustive list, as it was late last evening when I downloaded, and I am trying to remember this morning after having only 2 hours sleep trying to rid my system of the malware.

Whether any of these are offending links, I don't know. All I know is that things went haywire once I began to try and install what I had downloaded. I think it would be a pretty slim co-incidence that at the precise moment I began to install the amp sims, something else "already on my system" activated and installed malware.

Furlan: It's a start. :-) t-willy has posted a request in that thread to ask whether anyone else has run into these problems, so maybe that will turn up more information.

kaze: Good idea, that. But you'd better look out... someone else must be using your account to post on KVR. =o.O=

Did you unzip the ".zip" files from the Rokman and Concrete FX QAmp links?

I think I have tried them all without a problem with the so called malware, if there is a virus in one please do tell :?:

But the blanket title of your post and all the heavy hitters about to release amp-sims makes a person wonder :-o NO accusations but I still wonder :D

By the way should have the first two amps of the HELIAN Series ready by the weekend, hope you will enjoy them.

Might change the title of this thread to "be careful downloading...."

Then just warn about specific links?

Just a thought....;)

I hate to add to the confusion but I downloaded them all and had zero problems. This would be a nod to MF cuz that's what I use. Bullet proof. So far, anyway . . . Oh, and I like your idea, tranceglobal.
I try to care and understand.

Post

Marybelle, glad you've not run into trouble -- and that you're using Firefox! :-)

Furlan, I agree with tranceglobal that editing the post subject might be a good idea. (You can do this by going back to the original post and editing it.) If and when someone finds an verifiable problem, then there'll definitely be reason for concern. Until then, changing the thread subject line would avoid the appearance of FUD.

I've changed the title of the thread.

*bow* Thanky kindly. :-)
