Hi

Live5 looks tempting and the upgrade price is quite alright (279e boxed).

Is this a limited time offer?

I haven't got much cash right now and would rather wait a month or so, but if the price goes up in the meantime, yay...

if it's the same extended pre-launch offer (basically: upgrade to live 4 and get live 5 free) then it's gonna be just until end of this month according to ableton.

but if it's a different one, it might last for longer. i would suggest mailing ableton support, they seem pretty fast and friendly.

I'll mail the support.

That's how I got into Live...found a CD bundled with my M-Audio Oxygen 8 keyboard. It had no serial number but they let me upgrade to version 4 when it was launched. They are good people. :)

live 5 is very nice, it's getting closer and closer to being the one.

Have you got the demo yet? you can run them side by side to compare :D

Post

live 5 will be veeeeery good once they iron out the bugs and make the corners smoother (track freeze for instruments with more than 1 midi / audio track, etc.)

i like it a lot now but it doesn't feel ready yet.

I played with the lite version a bit. 4 audio and 4 midi tracks and only one fx. yay... it's only an appetizer.

I love Live 5 already. I have been waiting for that arpeggiator for a long time! And the chained device groups was a great idea, too.

i like it very much too kovacs, it just hasn't been 100% stable (doesn't crash all the time but does sometimes which live4 didn't do at all) and has several oddities i've run across (freeze behaviour, etc.) ... it feels like an awesome software even more than l4 but it just doesn't feel finished yet.

plus it chomps a LOT of cpu like l4 did. i have a slow laptop as my main computer and i know i need a new one but this doesn't help my craving to upgrade one bit :)

Agreed...it eats more CPU. And it sometimes crashes instantly - but I had that problem with early versions of Live 4, too. I don't use Live "live" so it's not a biggie for me (except when I forget to save...).

go for it! I love live5, although not too pleased right now, it won't boot up! (freeze during initializing)

Post

bluedad, maybe you have a VST that won't initialise or something?

I haven't added anything new and it was doing fine last night..but you're right, could be something dodgy.
thanks - I'll check

one thing i have to say is that despite all the problems people like me are having with 5.0.1, live has never ever crashed in a live situation here, neither v4 (although i didn't use the first release versions since i bought live much later) or v5.

i'm getting weird crashes with v5 occasionally but they seem to be related to stuff i don't use on stage since at that point i just use live to trigger audio i've rendered beforehand and tweak some fx that have never caused problems. and most of the gripes i have with v5 aren't related to how i work on stage anyway. i must admit don't trust 5.0.1 half as much as 4.1.4 and would prolly use the latter for any big critical gigs... but since i'm just a crappy hobbyist doing this for fun, it doesn't matter THAT much.

it's only like 10-20 gigs plus heaps of practise and jam sessions so far with this setup though, but if you look it at that way, the software has at least 50-100 crash free hours behind, hehe.
