Not to mention those that record and process audio, as well. ;)

I use Tracktion's freeze a lot. It doesn't meet the requirements of the poster; however, it meets my personal needs. I DO, however, bounce audio a lot, too.

hilarious! This thread has a time warp from July 3rd to Aug 9th!

Ok, since then Live 5 has come out with freeze and it is a very very very nice freeze.......with lot's of extra cpu room (doesn't ryhme, o well) and "5 wusik/2bfd/and vintage warmers/eqs/etcallworkingatonce"....

well, it's worth taking a look at this one anyway.

The issue I have with the Live 5 freeze is you can't edit the volume automation after the track is frozen. Sonar is the only host that I have found that has this functionality.

You can edit or even create a volume automation after you have freezed a track in EXT :D

Yeah technology can't beat something simple like bouncing a heavy track to audio.
Even if you are using a heavy softsynth on the track and need the midi track to remember what you played....just save the midi track.
I go overboard on track numbers quite often, and the only way for me to really know what is going on is to bounce audio so I can hear all the tracks playing together.
If all you are doing is midi stuff....in fruity loops it has that little light on the left of the volume and pan controls to just shut it off. That will save resources, but I'm still a fan of bouncing tracks...even if it isn't the latest technology...at least it's dependable

What is this function all about? 8) I always here about it, but till now confused about what it means!

I mean the freeze function, sorry.

Isn't the freeze function just a Band-Aid for inadequate resources?

When you have a midi track with a softsynth if you freeze that track it converts it to an audio tack and archives the midi/audio/softsynth freeing up resourses. As you probably know at some point with enough softsynths up a running you will run out of CPU. If at some point you wish to change a track you can unfreeze it make the change and redo the freeze. This also frees CPU with any effects you might have on an audio track. This is a killer trick.

Sure, but haven't you ever needed a band aid?
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

The synth is just the start. I need the audio to work anyway so freezeing a track is just a button push. It all ends up as audio anyway and your not really mixing till it's there. I use that synth as the starting point then go from there with the audio and many times the track sounds very different after that audio manipulation. But we all do our magic just a tad differently anyway :) When I started using softsynths I rendered my sequences as 2 tracks. I found I had way more control over what I could do if I did a multitrack audio mix to stereo.
