Yep, and from what I understand.......there is no solution for that in the future.

But......if you do allot of AUDIO recording it has advantages that other programs just don't have.

I dunno......it's harder to explain than to "know".............

I'll tell ya though..........this live 5 turns me on every day.......for doing drum parts, adding some key stuff.........and getting audio ideas.........it just rocks really hard........

I've been thinking about getting a program for sheet music and an alternative way of working. Checked on the site....It said 4 is going to have vst support. That would be nice. Does that program integrate well into standard vst hosts as well?
It would be a good option have have in the arsenal.
On the actual topic at hand.... I do all my audio and some midi in Tracktion. The rest of my midi i do with Fruity Loops 5, and I edit using Sound Forge 7.

Yep, version 4 can host VST instruments and effects. It works with all (for a given value of all of course) VSTi's and effects. I haven't tested every single one in existance of course, but the guys who built the VST engine know what they're doing.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'integrate into standard VST hosts.' You won't need to run other hosts alongside it. You may need to edit the resulting audio later or if you like a lot of track effects (something we haven't focused on yet) then you may need to export the midi for serious audio processing in a seperate application. Maybe I'm not understanding the question (it wouldn't be the first time.)

yes. recently i've been flirting with sx 3 after an almost 2 year relationship with live. pretty happy with cubase too.

ps. hi everybody, i'm new here.

I currently use SX3 the most. I find that I can edit audio fairly quickly with it now that I have a good understanding of it's hierarchy (i.e. clips, events, parts etc). I also find the sample editor easy to use as well.

Although I like the idea of using different hosts to inspire creativity when in a slump I'm not sure I'd ever want to spend the time learning several different apps. I usually turn to my modular synths to help me out of a creative rut.

The only other host that I enjoy is Live. I have V4 right now. To me a totally different way of working than with SX3.

I've used:
-Magix Music Studio 10-its MIDI Studio is based Logic and is very excellent and familar to me. I use most of the time-with some of the CM Studio VST's. Some of the Audio Studio synths are impressive too.
-Cubase-a very old cut-down version (Cubasis), didn't like it as much.
-Quartz Audio Master-I use it sometimes, very easy to use but took time to master.
-Kristal-very good and free, like it a lot.

I use Cakewalk Project5 2.0 for sequencing my vsti, dxi, and Reason instruments, and Acid Pro 5 for bussing/mastering and bouncing loops from P5 and Reason for chopping and manipulation. I have Sonar3, but didn't enjoy sequencing midi or manipulating audio with it. I guess it was too traditional for me.

Feh. I disapprove of those johnny-come-lately, flash-in-the-pan formats, and publish only on genuine Edison cylinders and REAL paper piano rolls of which sequencers can offer only pale imitations.

Wait until the atomic wars and the EMPs that will destroy all non-hardened solid state electronics -- then we'll see whose music can still be played. *nodnod*
