I've used Renaissance Bass and like it a lot.

Not for individual tracks, but for whole mixes.

I'm interested in getting great bass tone on the overall mix - something that will sound great on any system. I don't need to know how to simply beef up individual tracks (I can already do this)

Too many times I've heard my mixes on other systems and felt the bass could be better.

Ren Bass works well, but it's been too pricey to buy, so I don't use it.

Now I see LF Maxx from Voxengo and NW Maxx from WWAYM both out in the same week.

How do I get a great bass tone on the WHOLE mix?

Have you tried a light compression on your entire track? If your bass is already farily heavy but not heavy enough, I've found that lightly compressing the entire track boosts the bass nicely. you don't want to do it too much (what's too much?) for then it might pump the track. Experiment of course till you find the sound that you're looking for. You may even have to re-record the bass or layer.

RBASS is the best plug for this. don´t think it twice. the other way is the combination eq-light comp.
good luck!

kev, LF Max also helps you preserve your mix while doing bass enhancements. Can't speak for other bass enhancers. ;)

I've got LFMax > LFPunch for detailed shaping of the bottom end of my full mixes or to rebalance mixes from the archive. If there are any resonances down there I want to smooth out or level I put a Soniformer on first to get the stuff below 200Hz or thereabouts. Also the entire range can be brought up or down a few db with a peaking eq like GlissEQ if necessary first.

For me the LFMax > LFPunch combo is one I've been looking for for a long time.

There are demos of both plugins. Why not simply try it out?

Well. At least one of those (because the other one crashes at startup...)

smartass, I hope not the Voxengo's one. :)

No. Not yours.

I suggest voxengo transmodder. it's a transient shaping tool where you can set frequency dependent detection ranges. the cool thing is you can do stuff like this: detect the bass transients and the basss transsients will drive mids and highs (or lower them). this is a great way to improve bass in a mix. just check the demo. I wonder that Aleksey did not mention it.

AKJ, Transmodder is not necessarily a bass enhancer. For example, it does not create harmonic distortion nor it creates sub harmonics. Of course, Transmodder can be used for bass frequency adjustments as well (EQ will do, too).

I think achieving good bass is something that should happen within the mix. Why would post-processing the entire mix be a good idea? Some compression, yes, but adding distortion over the entire bass region will loose definition between different bass elements. Transmodder is great for tweaking elements that normally would be tweaked within the mix. It's great if you can't go back to an earlier stage and, for instance, add more attack on the bass drums, or snares, or whatever.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Is LF Max suitable for working with "missing fundamental effect"?

I mean, is it like a Waves RenBass/MaxxBass for the poors?

You could also try the mix bass Imagefrom www.pspaudioware.com (only available as a part of mixing-collection)

There's also a plug from george yohng, also as part of the mastering-bundle

JonnySun, what's "missing fundamental effect"?

IMO LF-Max is more powerful than those plug-ins mentioned. It has a different flavor, though, because of different approach.

i think that is all marketing. lf-max & waves RBass sounds very different. maybe you must listen both and use the adecuate to your music style. i like rbass for minimal, glitch & techno
