what instrument made the bassline in Michael Jackson's Billie Jean? Also, is there a way to find out what synths were used on various classic records? a website or something? Thanks

A Steinberger bass IIRC. The producer insisted upon using that particular bass, he said it wouldn't work on any other. The bassline itself was nicked from The Residents.
