I was all set to buy Fruityloops, and I still may. But EnergyXT has got me interested.

Here's how I want to work:

I like to play my music, record it, mix it, etc. I rarely plan to use extended samples with the potential exception of drumloops and such.

In short, I like to play in real time on a midi controller. I like to hear what something sounds like in real time. Then I like to add another track in real time over that, etc.

I use lots of piano, which means that I'll need support for sustain.

Is all this sort of thing supported at download? Or are there extras you need to buy or tweaks to make them work?

It should work.

Download it and find out!

That's teh best advice. Download the demo's and see how they work for you. There are plenty of tutorials and other resources to get you up and running reasonably quickly and the demo's aren't time-limited so you can really dig in deep before you decide.

I find the *combination* of FLStudio and EnergyXT to be priceless, especially combined with Midi-OX (free, and something I could not live without). For pure audio stuff, I use Audition. I could get by without Audition, but I really like it.

That's it, I've got other software that I don't use. I've got several hardware synths and an 8-channel sound card, and I've got a few paid-for VSTi's; mainly Wusik, Kubik and Sytrus. Lots of freebie VSTi's. I'd like more, but I'm still exploring my hardware synths, and I've got enough to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

Well, I downloaded the EnergyXt demo last night. I was able to get it working to some degree, although it strikes me as much more arcane than FL does. With FL, I was able to more or less just sit down and start doing great stuff. With this? Well, not so easy for me at least.

But I'll keep playing with it. For $50, considering it's a VSTI host it looks like a great deal.

There's a bit of a learning curve, so I highly *HIGHLY* recommend downloading and going through Darkstars eXT Beginners Guide, found here:

..they got me up and going in short order :hihi: ! eXT does take some time to get set up, but I have several templates I use now so it's pretty easy for me to load a template, customize it for the song, then "save as". :D

Well the documentation is a bit scattered around the net. :) It is quite unique though in what you can do with it. Everything is re-routable and it also works has a vsti/vst so you can use it inside other hosts.

I always use to record some ideas real fast.
