FL crashing lately with Midi Out

I've been working with FL 4 for almost 2 years now. No problems so far. When FL5 was released I obviously installed it but there was some problem with it and my midi keyboard and so I kept using FL4. It's strange but well that was already solved (my midi keyboard had a problem but strangely enough that problem was much much more persistent and annoying in FL5 than in 4.)
well, to the point. I've been using FL4 then with no problems, and I intend to install FL5 as soon as I finish the songs I'm currently working at.
But last week I had some problems: my FL crashed just when I tried opening a project. There was no problem with the project file cos I opened it as soon as I turned the pc on again.
However, today I've had 2 problems with FL again: I opened an empty project , and a MIDI Out to control my hardware synth. But then soon a note was stuck and it woulnd't stop and then FL was crashed and I had to reset the pc. That happened twice this morning.
I am considering then installing my FL5 right now and that's why I wrote the other post about opening projects from FL4 in FL5.
But about these problems. what do you think they're caused by?

i would suggest you post your system specs , and controller type in the FLS forum , and see if someone is running a similar set-up ...origami wrote:I've been working with FL 4 for almost 2 years now. i have no problems setting up various midi-out channels , and have never experienced these problems ...
i am not using an outboard controller , at this time ...

thanks.
I've installed FL5 right now and so I'm going to observe if this happens too in FL5.
thanks

Hey there my friend, you should bear in mind often crashes are hardware related. I use many midi outs and never had a problem. but I have found (not specific to FL) that using controllers that get powered by usb often have problems. I use to get messages at least 5 times a day saying a hardware device is not recognized. In my case it was always my PCR50, when I plugged in the power supply and swithed to the powere supply as opposed to usb all has been fine...it's been about a month since I got that message, not one time since I used the power supply...

My keyboard controller is usb and I've also had some problems of not recognising it, but very very easily solved.
These problems are worse, the FL gets stuck, i can't either close it or do anything else, and the sound of the Virus gets stuck and distorted and never stops.
I'll see if it happens the same with FL5.
thanks mate.

this is a tip that ew has recommended , in the past , for usb interface problems :origami wrote:My keyboard controller is usb and I've also had some problems of not recognising it, but very very easily solved.

might be worth a try ...Go into device manager and right click on your USB hubs to bring up properties. Under power management, uncheck everything and reboot.
i'd take note of your original settings , just in case , and perhaps set a system restore point , prior to changing the settings ...

Seems like you have the same problem i had with EXT, my problem was that i had enabled both midi in & out from my soundcard to the Roland MC09 In EXT´s options.origami wrote:My keyboard controller is usb and I've also had some problems of not recognising it, but very very easily solved.

So when i startet to play my hardware got stuck in an infinite loop.

and how did you solve it? I mean, i have FL connected via midi out to the Virus, and the Virus connected via midi in to FL and via audio in the soundcard.
am i doing anything wrong? advise?
thx

Ah, logical.
but you miss that function which is quite comfortable. However, if it must be, it must be.
NOW, maybe you can advise me. would you recommend me to use another host for hardware synth? I was considering using FL as a plugin within a sequencer that may be more suitable for hardware synth control, such as Sonar maybe??
advise welcome.

I am not shure how sonar works in that area.
But when you send midi in & out to a hardware device via your host you get a bad midi feedback wich means that the midi the hardware recieves from the sequencer will also be sent back to the host via midi in.
But it should be an option on the hardware to turn it off (Midi Thru) that should resolve it.

sorry, i don't understand the latest part of your message.
but I mean, I supposed that the proper way of doing it was that, I mean, to control the synth via FL with midi out so that the synth plays the notes I write on the sequencer...and to control the sequencer with the synth so that you can control the parameters with the synth.
am i missing something? i feel so stupid sometimes...

If the problem is a midi loop, you may run into this in many apps, I think FL (and other apps) have a 'disable midi echo' type option...I'll have to dig to find it
my sig will go here

well the problem was simply that I was playing the synth and suddenly the note got stuck and FL also.
The second time it was when I pressed play on FL and a midi out sequence started to sound. same results.

No you are not stupid M8
If you don´t ask you won´t get any answers either
Yes the idea is correct
But you have to configure midi thru on the Virus for sequencer use (If you have the manual you can search up on how to use it with a sequencer)
