Daniel Lanois' instrumental soundtrack to Sling Blade is absolutely gorgeous

The bluegrass soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou couldn't fit the movie any better

Peter Gabriel's instrumental soundtrack 'Passion' for "The Last Temptation of Christ" was also brilliant

Phillip Glass (or was it Brian Eno?) totally and utterly destroyed the (should be-)wonderful film Koyannisquatsi by puking that crap all over it :x

My first thought when I saw "favourite marriage of music and film" was Requiem for a dream...

but it was a commissioned soundtrack, wasn't it? I'm talking about existing music which the director (or whoever) has chosen to accompany a film.

But I have to say that the CLASSIC all time musical treatment of a movie is "2001:Space Odessey" where the "Zarathustra" intro plays over the apes becoming aware of themselves. It's so classic that it's become

"A Night at the Roxbury" with Haddaway's "What Is Love". Generally I like Stanley Kubrick's use of music.

Ooh, I've suddenly become the be-Muffed one:

Singles was a really bad film with great sound track.

But a good film with a soundtrack like that:

Grosse Point Blank!!!!

Pixes, Cure, Violent Femmes, FNM!!!

YEAH! That movie is so sweet, especially the very first song in the opening credits by "I, Monster".
