I want to heart this so badly
For my part, I wish I could hear how this little string lick of mine sounds with Philharmonik.
http://24.9.145.185/smf/index.php?actio ... 9.0;id=181
This is the simple kind of stuff that is running in some of the backgrounds of my songs.
It's Contrabass, Cello, Viola and Violin, using a patch named sforzato and later on one sustained patch for the high violin. The sforzato patch has a stong attack but the notes are kept long, as opposed in staccato. Therefore this switch of long and short notes can be done with one patch. The same thing would work with using a staccato patch plus a patch with a longer sustain plus a quite strong attack, like one could find in marcato patches.

Sounds nice... but I am not sure I understand your post... or are you just showcasing your style?
Whatever it is, it does sound good... My only complaint would be the solo violin (high notes). It sounds a little dry in comparison to the rest... Perhaps a bit of reverb with 0 predelay? It might make it sound like its sitting amidst the rest of the section strings. As it stands, it sounds a little too 'on top'...
but maybe that's just my preference...
Cheers.

Actually, I just would love to hear how this sounds with Philharmonik patches.advaya wrote:Sounds nice... but I am not sure I understand your post... or are you just showcasing your style?

That would give me a much more personal idea how Philharmonik would be for me - much more than other demos that I have heard.

If you've got a midi file and some trust, I'd show you.

So you are one of the lucky ones to test ride the beastJoseph Burrell wrote:If you've got a midi file and some trust, I'd show you.
Sure I can hand out a MIDI file to you - lets see, maybe on sunday or monday. I'm moving and my studio is "scattered pieces".
It's gonna be some work to reproduce it, though - to translate the details of CC volume automation and also the velocity levels which where edited 1 by one to make it sounds the way I want.

Not with what I'll be using it won't. It won't be that bad, I assure you. Some direction about articulations you'd like in the song would be nice. For example :20-:45 staccato. Not necessary, but will speed up the process on my end.

Articulations? Don't try to 100% reproduce the sound as it is, just the melody. It's necessary to listen and create the sound in a new unit of time, with the articulations you got at hand. That can only be evalated and decided when hearing the sounds. That said, there's 3 basic elements needed.Joseph Burrell wrote:Not with what I'll be using it won't. a) Short notes: staccato or another adequate sound with strong attack
b) long notes: a long note patch with a strong attack, maybe a marcato patch would do the job, the ears have to decide what to use. One might to try a crescendo patch to replace the CC volume automation for the long notes swelling and geting louder towards the end
c) long notes for the violin on top: any type of sutained patch might do it.

P.S.: Not with you'll be using? Help me to understand the sentence please. Are you using some special MIDI CC expression tools?

Not really a special tool, per se. I'll be using the standard Miro library as it comes, but the program I'll be using to reproduce the passage from midi contains ways to easily convert between different sample libraries and is easy to take a midi passage and apply programming from different libraries without a lot of hassle.
When I get the file I'll make my best judgement on what type of articulation to use for the samples. Realize there may be instances where velocity, etc. will have to be changed to activate the needed samples and such.
