Hi guys and galls,

I am looking for a sample of a percussion instrument, but I don't know its name. It is best described as a small cymbal that produces a bell-like sound, and as the sound decays, its pitch increases rapidly.

If anyone knows 1) the name of this percussion cymbal, or 2) where to find a wav file, I would be very happy!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Jack

Maybe try adding effects such a flange of pitch shift to a regular cymbal and use that as a sample.

In theory you could grab some finger cymbals and after hitting them throw them out of the window and as they move the pitch will drop and record that.

EDIT: oh right - you wanted the pitch to go up :D

is it perhaps a water bell ?

I suspect you are describing a flexatone. This is not a cymbal, but a flexible metal plate which may be flexed after/whilst being struck, causing the pitch to vary/go up/wobble according to how the player manipulates it. I imagine there are samples within most reasonably comprehensive percussion sets, especially latin-orientated sets.

A flexatone, that's what I was looking for. A big thanks to everybody, especially to Basjoe who made my day!

Oh my goodness, could this typo I made be a Freudian slip??? In any event, my apologies to all the gals on this forum for comparing you with tumorous outgrowths on plants.
