Kontakt 2 Upgrade Special

As you probably already know, Kontakt 2 is having an upgrade special where you can purchase Kontakt 2 for only $289.50 if you already own Intakt, Kompakt, Kontakt Player or one of the NI-based 3rd party sample libraries (EastWest, Zero-G, Best Service, Garritan, Big Fish Audio, Art Vista, etc.)
Being able to purchase Kontakt 2 for only $289.50 is very tempting, indeed; however, I don't own any of the above required products.
My question is which of the above required products is cheapest, so that I can purchase that first and then get Kontakt 2 for as close to the deal price as possible? I know that the Art Vista Virtual Grand Piano is currently only $99, but is there anything cheaper (especially since Kontakt 2 already comes with a sampled Steinway D)?

I think Art Vista for $100 is probably going to be hard to beat

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this one. Anyone have a URL for further info? I have GPO, would that qualify me?

Here's the link:
http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.p ... s&prid=532
That link doesn't mention Garritan, but if you go to this link:
http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?id=kontakt_us
scroll down, and select "Prices, Updates" on the left-hand side, the pop-up does say Garritan. So, you might want to double-check with NI first, but I think your GPO will work with the deal.

I don't get this... 300 bucks is a third of the way to komplete.
another 100 down for your cheapest possiable upgrade path. puts you at 400.
"But I don't [need/want] Reaktor/FM7/Pro53/Vokator/Spektraldelay/B4/Battery/Kontakt/Intakt/Kompakt...just the one".....sure right, whatever.
Save your money and get it all, at that price your talking. and if you do go your route there are cheaper upgrade prices.

Where? The only offer I have found appears to be at Sweetwater at the same price. I checked at Guitar Center and they did not seem to have a comparable deal.meeks wrote:if you do go your route there are cheaper upgrade prices.

and then with Kontakt 2 Experience for $119 more, you have a very complete (but not Komplete) package
it really looks like NI is pushing to make Kontakt 2, a product like Reaktor or Absynth with a large and active community of support including the User Library. before Kontakt 2 there wasn't too much a user could with the addition of scripting, there's a whole new arena for user involvement. The only gamble is how many sound geeks will take on the challenge of fooling with scripts.
the timing of this offer along with the added (example/tutorial) scripts and quality sounds in Experience is not a coincidence.

I think we need to distinguish between the update from Kontakt to Kontakt 2funkynuts wrote:This offer is available in the UK for £179 from

versus
The upgrade from Kompakt (or a bundled Kompakt Player, like GPO, Storm Drum, etc.) to Kontakt 2.
So far, the retailers I have contacted only seem to be handling the former (although there is a page on the Sweetwater website that talks about an upgrade fomr a Kontakt Player to Kontakt 2 for $289.50, which is the same price offered by NI to upgrade from Kompakt/Kompakt Player to Kontak 2.
Whew, I need a rest . . .

The offer at time and space clearly states that it is the upgrade for owners of intakt, kompakt or a 3rd party library based on these products.jeffn1 wrote:

As an intakt owner i plan to take advantage of this,£179 for Kontakt 2 and its 15 gig library seems like a great deal.

I just picked up the upgrade/crossgrade from Kompakt to Kontakt 2 for $199.95 from B&H Photo. I am not sure if this is new or what, but I couldn't find it on their site. I had to e-mail them asking if they had a price on the upgrade/crossgrade from Kompakt to Kontakt 2. (When I inquired at Guitar Center and Florida Music about this, the saleperson said they did not handle an upgrades from Kompakt to Kontakt 2).
