Recommendations of multimedia authoring SW wanted

I would like to build an interactive press-kit on cd-rom format for my project.

The problem is, when it comes to multimedia authoring programs, I'm a n00b. I tried googling for suitable programs but I got so many results I don't know where to begin. So, any recommendations would be appreciated.

My requirements for such a program are:

- I want to add music in mp3 format to text and pictures and make an easy-to-use web-site-like presentation of them.

- It should be relatively easy to use as I'm a beginner on multimedia authoring.

- The end product should be a cd that would work on as many platforms (both pc and mac) as possible.

- It shouldn't require the user of final cd to install anything to view the contents (is this possible?).

- It would be nice if there's a free/cheap alternative around...

Does such a program exist?

We use Opus from Digital Village.

It does all the things you ask, except no Mac.

Easy yet sophisticated.

Try the demo. It's the only way to tell, as there are so many products in this field and the specs bewilder rather than relieve.
