Dear folks,
I need a bit of advice. Finances force me to sell my precious Alvarez Yairi 12 string. It is the best sounding acoustic I have ever heard. My question is how to ship a guitar with hardshell case. Is there a special box I can get? Is it wise to ship an acoustic in hot weather? Should I just sell it local pickup only? (ebay sales) I at least know to loosen the strings

Any advice would be most appreciated..Maybe I should just sell it on consignment locally.... Although I would get more if I sold it via ebay... Sigh.... I am loth to part with this and really worried about it getting damaged during shipping...

Before you ship it play Tom Paxton's Thank You, Republic Airlines on it. Then take it out of the Anvil case and put it back in your room. And get a loan to hold you up through the financial gravitational field.

Having sold too many precious instruments due to temporary financial needs, it is never worth it. That or put aside some of that money for future therapy when a few years from now you are wracked with regret. Sell the soft synths first!

Thanks for the advice Mandolarian.... I only have Zebra, Cam 5000, and Atmosphere. They won't bring much... Do you play a mandola? (I have a Sobell mandola that I wouldn't sell unless I was desperate) The therapy comment made me laugh. Thanks for that! It's been a tough day........

I have a Warby Mandola. But a Sobell, *sigh*, I kick myself for letting go of a Sobell Octave Mandolin years ago. Arg! See, it's over ten years and I still whince when I think about it. Learn from my mistakes. Sell the stereo or the car or your neighbour's car.

Good luck on your fund raising drive! All you need do is busk all weekend with a one-legged dog at your side.

I wonder if I bought your Sobell. Did you sell it via Elderly? So you see my dilemma too. I have the 6 and 12 string Yairis, the 2 Sobells and a couple of basses that aren't worth much. No way I am getting rid of the Sobells or the 6 string. Aw shite, being broke sux..... I have never played a Warby.. How do they sound? Are you a Celtic musician or do you use it for other stuff too?

Two Sobells!!! That's it, I'm going to sulk all weekend! The Warby is a sweety, but it's just a flat top, ain't no Sobell. Two Sobells?!?!!

I started out as a young bluegrass/celtic mando player and slipped sideways into the Mediterranean. Flamenco mandolin, anyone? North African blues on a Russian domro. Latin son on a octave nylon string Catterall Kashalin driving a GR-33. That sort of thing. I'm a hybrid-o-linist. Maybe someday I'll be a Sobellian again.

I got mine by pure luck! A friend sold me one of his..( He has 4 Sobells!) He also gave me the heads up on the one at Elderly years ago. I have good friends!

Assuming it is a special guitar you need to ship, I don't recommend using UPS or Fedex. Just walk the guitar to its new owner on foot...

Can't begin to tell you how many products, both electric and acoustic, have been reduce to tin-foil and balsa wood by those two companies!
