OK I have recently discovered the joys of sampling. I come from a modular synth background and half of my "creativity" is spent with mod synths (Modcan and Blacet mostly). I also play drums and love synthesizing sounds on my nord mod that I can trigger back with drum pads.

But I have realized that with the help of a sampler I have a whole lot of "percussion" just laying around my house waiting to be banged upon. Paint cans, clothes-hangers, washers and dryers. All kinds of things that sound neat when smacked.

My goal is to record several things then load up the wave files into a sampler and use velocity layering and mute groups, effects and generaly anything to destroy and/or warp the sounds... And then play these with my drum pads.

So far I've been using my PDA to record the items but it records at too low a resolution. Now I love Sample reduced and bit screwed sounds a lot but not for EVERYTHING....

So is there any recommedation for a portable recorder that has a decent sound quality? I'd like something pocket-sized but am willing to consider other sizes if the audio quality is worth it.

hmm... how about a minidisc recorder, cheap, portable, not a bad quality?

Hey Sync, do you have a specific model that you'd recommend? There seem to be plenty of these on the market but not too many have a built in mic.

Seems that some of these mp3/wma players have built in mics too. Anyone have experience with one of these?
