FL Studio MIDI question

I know this is going to sound stupid as I've owned Fruity for such a long time but have had no need of this function....but Fruity gurus out there, when I create a midi pattern in the piano roll, how can I export the midi file? I've tried the obvious export function, but the resulting file does not seem to open in any other midi sequencer. Almost as if it is a blank file.

Is there something special that I need to do?

This is Fruity 3.4 by the way. I had had enough of the current FL Studio. Decided to go back to an earlier version.

It's not that obvious what you have to do to make this happen. I think there should be an option to save MIDI instead of a .fsc file. I certainly think the process of creating a separate channel, then copying the score from one channel to another, then rendering the project, is quite a kludge, and I cannot imagine that any user is expected to discover how to do this on his own, even after reading the manual, and even after reading the FL Bible.

Yeah -- I think Gol never got all that enthusiastic about midi to begin with, so FLS is lacking in some respects.

I don't have any problems "importing" midi files into FLS that I output from Finale though.

Be that as it may, all this info is quickly available from the FLS 'Looptalk' forum, as any registered user knows -- even with version 3.4.

There are HUNDREDS of fcuking topics on this in Looptalk...

Besides, have to agree with poster above, the export midi function is cumbersome in FL. It's not intuitive which is why it has never been my main host.

Hey Audio.
Did you get to export and use the MIDI file?
I have been trying to use an old file exported as MIDI but any time I open it in EnergyXT or T1 I get some really weird behaviour from the VSTis.
It seems that FL sends all kind of MIDI messages along with the MIDI file itself. Messages that were not suppossed to be there in the first place
Have you had similar issues?

To satisfy your curiosity Xander:

1) I don't go to Looptalk, but I frequently visit KVR. There are a lot of Fruity users here and there is a forum by the name of 'Hosts'. Simple enough for you?

2) Because I find later versions to be feature bloated. That's why I prefer version 3x. Are you trying to imply something else here?

Oh and the answer is 'yes', I do own a license for Fruity in all it's incarnations. I have owned it for several years now. Everything is legitimate, so you can stick your head back in now. The Warez police have all gone home.
