Question about sound quality in Kontakt 2

Some background: For some reason I never bought into the whole soft sampler thing. I felt like I could do whatever I needed by just manually placing and manipulating samples in an audio track (I use SX3 as my primary host) and using VSTi's like Trilogy and Atmosphere for sampled content and Reaktor for manipulation. But, after a recent project that had a quick deadline, I realized I needed a soft sampler to more easily do some vocal sample manipulation. Little did I know how much more I would be able to do. I realize that sounds dumb now but I just never worked samplers into my overall workflow so I just didn't think about what they would bring to my music.

So, a couple of weeks ago I bought Kontakt 2 and while going through the manual I just dropped a single bass sample from a House sample CD into a new instrument to try out all the features as I read along. All I can say is wow! This single lifeless, borderline lame bass sample suddenly sounded big and rich and full of personality even when playing it across several octaves! I couldn't believe my ears.

So my question is why does this sample sound so much better when played through K2? I realize that putting certain effects on it will certainly beef it up and give it more interest but outside of some reverb and a modulating filter I didn't put much else on it. And every other sample I drop into K2 sounds much better than they do on their own.

Maybe there isn't specific answer but, damn!

i don't think that simply by playing a sample through Kontakt it will sound better. but it really is a great sampler.

Possibly its a combination of factors eg.

Velocity sensitivity-allowing for more realistic nuance

Amp envelope-affecting dynamic of sound and perhaps strengthening transient

Psychoacoustic effects-sensual pleasure incurred by the hands on manipulation of the sound.Instant gratification from hitting something and hearing it make a nice loud noise. Thus heightening your enjoyment of the experience.

Nothing is more liberating than freeing oneself from the controlling mind and letting the spirit of the music fill your heart and soul then allowing yourself to join in that perfect moment by letting the subconcious guide your playing
