It's called "Keyboard Tracking", and it adjusts the Cutoff frequency based on the note number being played; common on analog synths.

Right.
In subtractive synths, there's some value (like "1") where the cutoff frequency doubles (goes up an octave) as the note goes up an octave. Generally, the settable range is from zero (no keyboard tracking) to 1.5 or 2. The point of "no effect" is usually middle C, but some start from the bottom (meaning, when you adjust it, you usually have to adjust the filter cutoff a lot too.)
Some synths just had 3 settings: none, half, and full. And that worked better than you might think, though less than ideal.
In a sampler, it might be useful to allow values below zero, to increase the cutoff as the key value goes down. This would allow brightening up bass samples while dulling treble ones.
So, I'd think the best useful range would be from -2 to +2, and there should be very easy ways to set it to exactly zero or one (the most commonly used values).
I used this effect along with lots of resonance and detuning the oscillator on my old Juno 60 to get a great steel drum sound (for the early 80's, that is). I used full keyboard tracking and lots of resonance, enough so that it would play a note even without the oscillator going. Then I reached behind the synth to adjust the tuning knob (which affected the oscillator runing but not the filter control), and detuned it from the resonance to get that nice detuned sound of a steel drum. Worked great! Of course, probably doesn't apply much to sampling.

All dependent on Synthedit's soundfont oscillator... which has some good things about it, but it also has some bad things.ttoz wrote:without reaidn ghte entire thread, what's the soundfont compatibility of this one like so far...reports??
Sometimes the pitches of drums don't load right, and there's no canceling for hihats.
But it's great for loading simple soundfonts. It can load velocity layers, etc. It doesn't load the modulation properties of 2.x soundfonts.

To tell the truth it's sorta sitting around. It's pretty much all working fine...
What I am concerned about are the bugs with Synthedit's soundfont loader, and the restrictions within Synthedit's soundfont loader. Sometimes it just doesn't load certain soundfonts right, sometimes drum soundfonts just don't work.
Anyways, if you really want it just PM me and I'll send you what I have so far.

Could someone make a soundfont player with really high interpolation that actually works. I'e played with a few soundfont players, but the synthesis allways seems up the spout.
Sample quality playback is the most important thing for me though, like SFZ+ just that Sfz+ doesn't have enough resolution on the adsr for me.

This does sound interesting. Has the SE SF2 implementation improved at all and if so, do you think you'll update your VST to match?
I'd be very interested to check this out.

Nah, the SE SF2 implementation isn't as amazing as SFZ, but hopefully my Soundfont Enhancer provides some additional features to make it worth it...jackson wrote:This does sound interesting. Has the SE SF2 implementation improved at all and if so, do you think you'll update your VST to match?

You won´t have to say that twice, downloading already. It has changed a lot since I saw the thingie, last time. I ran out of time; there were so much versions, I couldn´t follow the trip. I´ll give it a new try. It was at least a very promissing gadget !
