Hi,

I really want to like UBK. I can here the details in the sampling and articulations and the overall quality of the sets, but I really don't like the demos. I am not interested in slap or funk, and the demo's avaiable are WAY too clean and MOR for my liking.

Has anyone put these sets to some dirty/lofi/alternative rock use? I am after darker sounding basses, you can use anything from Bob Dylan's 'You Gotta Serve Somebody', anything from Beefheart, through to Lee Scratch Perry, and even Sparklehorse or any alt./post rock for an idea of the tones I am after. Of course, I know the sounds need to be amped to acheive these tones, but is this the right raw material for the job?

Hi pw

I myself make alt / rock / heavier style music and I can attest to the sets being well suited for this. They are clean direct injected for that reason ... so you can use the amp sims etc to get the Drive and tones you want. Or you can use clean for other styles.
The Bass had custom pickups that were double powered by 9 volts. This gives lots of tone in the samples.
I don't have any heavier style demo songs ready yet although we know we need to feature that style with these sets. Problem here is, after i heard all Gregs great Demo tracks ....I forgot how to play myself ... :-)

We will get some alt / rock demos up soon :-) Maybe some of the users can comment as i know some of them are heavier style players also.

Also there are some Great Basses in ManyStation that are heavy tone wise.

I'm making you a demo featuring a dirtier distorted side of UBK... hopefully it'll be more what you're looking for than the other demos.

Hi Guys, thanks for responding, I look forward to hearing more stuff with some dirt. You both mention either 'heavy' or 'distorted', and while I love a good non-cheesy riff as much as the next guitar player, I am trying to express something different, but not something so unique. I gave the Dylan example because I heard it on the radio an hour before I posted- I am talking more about dark and wamr rather than heavy or distorted. Pick any 60's or 70's rock band, or any of the 90's and 00's lo-fi or rock to get what I mean.

So more like "old-school" rock?

HI

You mention 'Lee Perry' - I have been making Reggae/Dub for 25 years and this sample set will give you some nice bass sounds suitable for that genre.

Manytones stuff is awesome.

Flipper.

With all this talk of bass and amp sims:

What are people here using for a bass amp sim?

I find I struggle to get a good bass amp sound using regular guitar amp sims - esp a good clunky-but-not-overdistorted pick bass.

Anyone care to shed light here?

Since this is just between us  it's time to confess that I have NI Combos and still haven't managed to fashion a good rock pick out of it yet. Damn!

So your offering will be timely in the extreme ... er, that's if there is an offering actually

Hi
No Need to wait to purchase UBK.
The new product is a VSTi and UBK does not affect its pricing or does not compete with it ...But ....UBK can be used in the new product, As not only is UBK an addon for ManyStation but also will be an addon Soundset for the new Machine :-)
I will post a screenie and Info as soon as I get the last bits together here, which should be in the next day or so.
