I timestretched some breaks using recycle (worked great)..now I have some clicks and pops and an overall thin drum sound that id like to fatten out a bit.what are you techniques for doing such a thing?

I have been messing w/ camelphat also to get the drums going.

I,d clean up the clicks and pops by homing in on the offending waveforms in your sample editor.First check that everything is chopped at zero crossings ,if not adjust this manually by resizing or chopping the slices. Then if any glitches remain zoom in to sample level, identify the trouble spots in the waveform ,highlight only these affected region and perform a gain reduction in order to remove the glitches.
The above "words" are the ramblings of a depraved megalomaniac.Any similarity to normal communication is a hallucination on the part of the reader.Replying to this post will result in your family and posessions becoming the property of funkynuts.

Fattening a break can just be a matter of layering some of your own bass drum/snare samples over the break itself, and maybe adding some izotope vinyl/bit degradation to those samples to make them fit in a bit more. At least, that's what I do. :)

A good way to mask the artifacts of timestreched breaks is to apply some smooth reverb to the snares, hats, and cymbals, and do a little bit low-pass filtering to the kicks.

Hope this helps...

thanks guys..i did noise reduction which always seemed to work before..but this time when i zeroed in on a crackle, and did NR..it really took the whole thump out of the loop..i lessened the NR and the crackle still stayed..i guess ill just deal with it..it is part of a record break beat.

noise reduction? always used it as an effect but never thought of using it like so - will look into it.

One thing that all slicers suck at (actually some are getting very impressive, but still lack control) is adding tails to cut-off hits. Do so manually in an audio editor and this will give you all the control you want with the tails (this also means to slice it up manually, adding the tails manually, and dumping them into samplers manually - very lengthy, but can be very worth it in result). This isnt mandatory or anything, just something you might wanna try.

Another HUGE thing is compression. Most famous breaks (amen, tramen, funky drummer etc etc.) are heavily compressed (yet still done very well).

stash....are you using Reason?(since you mentioned they are rex files)

If your loop is loaded into dr rex or any other rex player that has an attack parameter then you may wanna try upping the attack time a little. This will most likely get rid of the clicks but it will also lessen the impact of the hits. Add in your own kicks/snares to compensate for this.

I have yet to find a slicer that extends the tail of a slice, I haven't tried them all. Which one are you talking about?

not using Reason..using Recycle..even tried Cooledit..I think this is just a stubborn break..i dunno..I have defnitley fattened it up w/ more compresion..good call.

just so you guys know..theis track had an annoying click in it that just killed the break..I finaly got rid of it..here is what I did in case you have the same problem:

Opened the wav in soundforge. zoomed way in on the click only..selected smooth/enhance and moved the bar all the way left. mercifully, the thing is gone, and you can not hear an edit. Now all that is left is that nice vinyl sound.

Noise reduction is almost always my first option, but this break resisted everything until I tried smoothing.

The Zero X series of Beat Creator/Quantiser has a range of time stretch features one of which is slice based/generate tail. Works well on percussive loops.

which break was this? mind posting it?

Try chopping up the break into individual hits, then EQing out all the low end shite (particularly off the hats).

no..i dont mind, but my DAW is not hooked up online, so it can be a PITA. I dont know what song it is from, but I believe it was used by Beck. I want to say devil's haircut. The copy I have just had a little too much of the delicous vinyl sound resulting in a loud click towards the end that ruined the whole vibe.
