BR - Disappearing VSTis in the Mixer

When you select "Show selected" in the Main Mixer and click on a MIDI track routed to a VSTi, the VSTi appears in the Mixer.

So far, so good.

Now, when you show a parameter for that VSTi, the VST section disappears from the Mixer. To get it back you have to select the Sequencer window again.

This also happen when:
- you add an Insert FX to that VSTi,
- you show a parameter for that Insert FX,
- you add a Send FX

- It looks like the Mixer forgets that the Sequencer (and track) is selected.

[bump]

Anyone confirm this?

NB - you need to select "Show Selected"

not only this but it also doesn't show the the respective channels of a track in the mixer anymore when you click on the track header (dunno how Jorgen calls these 'channels' - the bit in the mixer with the fader of an audio-track/vsti, its inserts and it's send settings)

something is seriously f**ked up!

Meanwhile I found out that it will reappear when I minimize eXT and then re-activate the window.

I haven't yet found out what action it is to make it disappear but here it's not to add parameters in the mixer.

Can you confirm that the bug also affects audio-tracks, Simon?

I don`t get this behaviour, but I just noticed I am using Beta 1.4 from august 12th
What version are you using?

Post

We're also using the latest beta. The bug has been introduced with this version.

Ok I`ll check again once I have my first cup of coffee of the day
Actually the first coffee from my last day of vacation

b.t.w.: when the bug happens EXT also doesn't react to key-commands anymore...

Post

and as I wrote minimising the window and then re-activating it cures the problem but while I wrote the last post it happened twice that eXT suddenly sucked up almost all available cpu-resources and it took me a while to get the window back and eXT's cpu-meter showed full usage until I started playback and then everything was normal again... :?

(so far this sounds like a denormal but but it would be the first I ever experienced with this machine as it's an Athlon XP)

last vacation days suck... :-(

you just need to work on a track - suddenly it happens all by itself...

it seems as if the '100% cpu-usage'-bug was Mozilla's fault...

..thanks.

I thought I used too many effects. :)

@Kaos: know the feeling. I'm having second one now..

@Jens, yep same problem with audio tracks.
- so strictly the topic title should be "Disappearing Mixer sections"

Ok, here's the recipe that does it for me:
[beta 12 August]
- start with an empty project, add a Sequencer, add any VSTi to a MIDI track,
- in the Mixer, choose "Show Selected"
- - >> the VSTi section in the Mixer disappears, even though the track (and VSTi) are still selected in the Sequencer Arrange view
- click on the MIDI track header and the VSTi section is redisplayed

- right-click on the VSTi name in the Mixer, select Show param and choose any param
- - >> the VSTi section in the Mixer disappears again
- click on the MIDI track header and the VSTi section is redisplayed

- add any Send FX
- - >> the VSTi section in the Mixer disappear again
- click on the MIDI track header and the VSTi section is redisplayed

OR
- in the Sequencer, insert sample for an audio track
- click the audio track's audio channel number [1] in the Mixer >>. Add insert, choose any FX
- - >> the audio track section in the Mixer disappears
- click on the audio track header and the VSTi section is redisplayed

The same problems are in v1.3.5 and 05 August beta and 29 July beta.

In v1.3.0 the equivalent (with "Select by track" in the Seq mixer) is OK.

It may be because the Sequencer window loses the focus when you do any of these actions.

Post

Simon, did you try if all shortcuts (e.g. space and crtl+z) still work?

Post

Have done so just now - they stop working too. More strictly, the shortcuts apply to the main window.

for example:
After I have down a "show param" and the VSTi section has disappeared:
- ctrl+spacebar does nothing,
- m pops up the context menu for the Sequencer comp, rather than mute the selected track.

So it seems more and more to me that the focus is transferred to the Seq comp in these cases.

I'll bet Jorgen has sorted it. :)
