my live setup is me the lappy korg ms2k,couple of bent toys.i will be messing about near the back of the stage whilst at the front will be a couple of theremins and two seminekkid laddees dancing
they will occassionally with their dancing trigger the theremins which will be fed through the mixer to me and my mangling station also.
provided my dancers are horny enough i doubt anyone will care what i do :)

That's so last century. If not the one before that.

All you need to do is program your whole set as one big song with tempo changes, etc. Or you could use EnergyXT as a container for each song and trigger a different instance from the Playlist in Fruity. Could be the next big thing.
I've seen this done. Half of the local rap duo Grand Buffet was to perform. They were close to completing an album, so when he went on stage with his laptop he announced "I am going to sit here, play half done mp3s and smoke a cigar." He ended the set with a karaoke version of a Spice Girls song. It was still a good show.

I keep hearing more and more about Energy XT. I need to check it out.

I'd go for the show-off approach, meself - if you give people something to look at they're more likely to listen, too, whereas if the only thing to grab my attention is a bloke behind a laptop, I'm (or at least, a lot of the audience are) probably going to get bored and start chatting.

I'm not a great fan of Basement Jaxx, but I've always liked the look of their live show - two speccy blokes twiddling knobs totally obscured by a couple of dozen dancers in crazy costumes. Animal costumes are always good value for money too, as are pot plants, balloons and people miming key-tars.

Post

The Flaming Lips have been doing the animal costumes a bit recently. They played on Conan and had some of the actors from the show stand around and pretend to be tuning their instruments too. The only thing better than animal costumes is jumpsuits, Devo or Man or Astro-Man style. I guess a live playing approach could also depend on the crowd. Fans at a rock show may not be very tolerant of a guy hiding behind a monitor. Electronica fan wanting to dance may not mind.

Could someone give me some tips on how to do this. I am trying the EnergyXT demo and it seems really fun. This works really different than FL.

Right now I am trying to use FL as a VST in EnergyXT. It seems you can only use instance of FL this way. Is this a limitation of the demo or is it not even possible?

The last thing I need is more software, but it looks like you can do some real cool stuff with XT and FL together.

My experience with eXT is largely limited to what I want to do with it but I have no problem loading multiple instances of VSTi. It is a very cool environment and the deeper you dig, the more incredible things you discover. For 40 euros its an absolute steal. But if you are used to the way FL works you will probably get better milage out of loading teh VSTi version of eXT into FL, rather than the other way around.

A friend performed a 2 hour set using Fruity loops and ReBirth and it sounded surprisingly good, to fill between tracks he simply played out some samples such as film tag lines and NASA countdowns.. crap like that, and it worked well... The ReBirth portion was really good as he was tweaking it live to interactive with the crowd.

The only really downer for us was that he repeated quite alot of stuff as he underestimated how much material was needed to fill the set.

The downer for him was that he supposedly created some tunes on the fly by randomly dropping notes around and on the night it sounded some of the best he had done... He never got a chance to save though! :D
