and it might be a bit trickier if you are trying to get REALLY precise values
You can enter values for velocity and cc manually per events or a group of event in the CC toolbar in eXT piano roll.

if this is about most efficient midi-editing i'd be for sx, too. piano-roll is good, list-editor is good, drum-editor is good, too. midi-related commands are good. midi-plugins are good, too.
i hear midi-related editing is nice in digital performer, too.

this really depends on what you want to edit though. will you process existing material or create? will you do repeating tasks? use notation? etc..
so either try those apps at your local music store/try demos/read the manuals or specify what you will be doing, before logic/sx-advocacy will abduct this thread.
You're my son, dude!

I understand your point, too. Just think about the minimonta vs. minimoog thread :)

try to get an old cubase se or le. should be real cheap!

I've used Sonar 4, Live 5 and Project 5 v.2. I enjoy using Project 5's Piano Roll/Step Sequencer the most, then Live, then Sonar. I love being able to easily move, stretch and erase notes and adjust velocity with one tool. I can get things done in Sonar, but the Piano Roll is absolutely clunky and no fun compared to the other two.
