I keep putting 'Francis the mute' in the CD player. I'm beginning to suspect it's a right good CD...

AFAIK Pink Floyd is the singer. And Brian Salad Surgery plays bass.

I mean, come on... you've GOT to love a man whose performance is so intense that he rips a hole in his shirt due to the sheer POWER.

I've only seen the Incredible Hulk do that, that I know of.

The Mars Volta is an offshoot of At the Drive In.

Cedric (the singer) and Omar (The guitarist) were in that band, as were members of the band Sparta.

Omar is 'the big brain' behind the project from what I hear, but it is hard to imagine the band without Cedric.

The singer is actually named Omar Rodriguez-(something-or-other). Him and the bassist (I think) used to be half of the band At The Drive In.

I like them way more than "At the Drive in"

Definetly, parts of both albums are sheer genius, other parts sadly seem to drag on a bit... A good example of this is 'The widow', absolute amazing song ruined slightly by a bit of overplay at the end with the looped vocals etc.. Great on first listen, not so great on the 10th (I just skip all the fill-in crap (That sounds great live) on the album now and concentrate on the real content) :D

Post

i freakin' love TMV, in my opinion finally there's an intense and amazing band, back to save intense and amazing music, just in the nick of time

can't friggin' get enough of these guys, both their albums.... my heros

surprised that KVR is all stoked on them, but great thread, thanks :)

Post

actually I should love Mars Volta more than ADI because they more into progressive rock but imo they have yet to write a tune that beats 'one armed scissor' - but then again of course they're genius anyway! :-D

no...herodotus is right. Omar and Cedric were in ATDI. Flea from Red Hot CHilli Peppers plays bass on "Deloused in the comatorium"
