There are a few limited copies out there in the hands of a few people making demos. Larry did one that just knocks me out. I can't wait for you to hear it. It shows more sounds per square inch than I've ever heard in a composition... of course the composition was MADE to demo it and he does that so well. IK will post it soon. I am wrapping up riff demos this week. It's on baby!

ready to compose anytime, anywhere ?
Taking the sounds along on a HD is workable. Of course, you will need to install the Philharmonik plugin on the PC you want to use.

Installing the plug is really not a big deal as compared to the advantage of mobility....telebunke wrote:Taking the sounds along on a HD is workable. Of course, you will need to install the Philharmonik plugin on the PC you want to use.

That's good news.

Makes me hope that this CP system be used with AT2 too : I've always been frustrated to have AT1 tied to just one PC !

Just wanted to chime in with my real world 2 cents on dongles. I'm a Samplitude owner, and when they announced that version 8 would be dongled, the same debate happened over there. At the time, I was in favor of dongle CP because I have several PCs and laptops, and the flexibility to move from machine to machine appealed to me. Everything was great for several months until one Saturday when I booted my machine and the dongle was dead. Tried it on several machines - dead. To make a long story short, I was without the use of my licensed software for the 1.5 weeks it took to mail, test, and mail back a new dongle. I do this music stuff for fun, so a week and a half without it wasn't tragic. But if I ran a studio and made my living with this stuff, a week and a half would be totally unacceptable. I guess what I'm trying to get across is that shit does happen, so as a vendor selling and supporting dongled software, you'd better have a definite policy in place for these scenarios.

I have that product too. The dongle never broke on me but it is a different dongle as well. Still, your point is made and understood. If one has a studio they can get a multi-user license which costs a bit more but gives you the ability to have a back up in case of something like that. I have a back up of the speakers in my studio in case one goes out. Same kind of thing.
But, anyway, there are trade-offs and it has been said at length already. Just like any copy protection there are going to be trade-offs. I had a piece of software from another company that I couldn't license at all because their server was down for over a week (yes, a major company too). Sometimes inconveniences can happen but thankfully they are rare.

Being able to have a backup is the kind of thing I wastalking about. Or allowing a new dongle to be cross-shipped by charging for a full license and then refunding the cost once the broken dongle is received. Having options like that can make a huge difference.
But hey, I've got my Philharmonik on pre-order, so my experience couldn't have scared me off that much

Just a question about the compatibility of the Philharmonik sounds in the upcoming ST 2.1 engine.
How does ST handle the send and special effects that Philharmonik offers?
Will it only be able to load the samples without the effects?

ST 2.1 won't be able to load the Philharmonik sounds at all.
There is talk that it may in the future but for the moment Philharmonik is on its own.

But the Philharmonik homepage says:
"Please note: since Miroslav Philharmonik sounds are based on an enhanced version of the SampleTank engine, they cannot be opened from the current version of SampleTank, but this feature will be available in the next upgrade. "
So, what is meant be "NEXT" upgrade?

I get you point and the word Next is a little unprecise. Squids has explainded that there are some special features in Philharmonik that are not part of the current ST version. Some of the features made their way into Version2.1 and, as it
seems, some won't. IIRC the inclusion of the CSR reverb cannot be expected to be in ST 2.1 either.
Conclusion: It's gonna find it's way to a later release than ST2.1.
One of the feature that will be in ST 2.1 is the impsoved stretch.

It says that on the site officially? Ok. Then next upgrade means what you think it means... one that is after 2.1! No more details revealed than that except that it will eventually be able to read Philharmonik. You can imagine all the rest I am sure (plus some surprises of course).brotherone wrote:But the Philharmonik homepage says:

Is it possible to play Philharmonik stand alone without a sequencer?
I cannot find any info concerning this function on the website

Did not see that as an option upon installation. You are given a choice of dxi, VST or RTAS. Sometimes stand-alone versions install automatically, but that is not the case here which leads me to believe it is not an option. Odd, since the very playable combis would seem to lend themselves to a stand-alone application very well.brotherone wrote:Is it possible to play Philharmonik stand alone without a sequencer?
