Waves Platinum or Voxengo Plugs and a computer upgrade?

My point was, the price should be $150, or it's not such a good deal. Finding it now for $300, knowing that other people paid a lot less for it, doesn't get me very interested at all.

229$ for the package... - but anyway: most of the stuff is far too digital sounding for my taste (i.e. nothing special these days) but the reverb is really schweet and light on the cpu as well and easy to use and thus a real bargain at 49$

going back to discussion about quality of waves plug-in; does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to Waves Linearphase EQ? I'm writing all this based on my memory of using it before (i.e. my memory of the sound may be quite distorted as it's been a while since I used it); but here's what i remember I liked about it -

1) i remember it cut sound very well, i.e. without altering the sound characteristic much, so I guess that's what many would call 'transparent' (can't really use this word here though, I'll explain later). At least in my memory, this EQ had the best 'transparent' EQ cut I've tried up to that point

2) i remember subtle boost worked very sweet with this EQ

3) the reason why I tried to avoid using the word 'transparent' is, I remember scratching my head back when I was first trying it that it seemed to alter the sound slightly just by letting the signal path through it! Maybe it had something to do with the 'dither' option included in this EQ plug-in?

anyway, I liked using this EQ very much - the PC I was using it on had loads of other stuff installed on it but back when I was using it (about a year ago actually) I remember I always went back to use this EQ for just about everything, but on the other hand I was always somewhat concerned that whatever sound passed through this EQ seem to somehow change in its sound characteristic... I can't pinpoint exactly what it was, but I would describe as 'sweetened' in a good way, but at times it felt that much more 'stuffy'. :p

Anyway, what do people think about Waves Linearphase EQ/what other EQs would be comparable to this one?

One thing I found quite odd about LinearPhase EQ was the amount of latency it introduced in the signal path Not something I expected from an EQ!

Switcing on the PDC option in my host (Live 5) instantly deals with this automatically, of course, but it limits where I might use LinearPhase EQ - really a Mastering tool rather than for tracking, and certainly useless in a Live context or during recording.

Anyway, in answer to your question, you might be interested in Elemental Audio's EQ Eqium and Firium if you've not come across them yet.

hehe, if my memory of waves manual serves me right, waves deesser (not sure about renessaince one) is just compressor with fancy filtering in the sidechain.
and, erm, isn't compressor just applying envelope to audio amplitude?
of course one can do deessing with multiband compressor or dynamic eq too

About linear phase equalisation: Firium and CurveEQ can do linear phase

lin eq is pretty underrated, imo. i agree w/ michu about the firium and curve-eq being good...

as a tracking eq, eqium is good sounding - not great. it's better for cutting than for boosting, but it has the best interface of any eq, imo.

Those algorithmix prices are ridiculous! The plugins look circa '98 and I'd be surprised if they live up to the price. €1190 for a plugin. And where are the rave reviews? I doubt whether anyone will bother. I suppose if they sell one the rents paid for a month. Twats!

actually, the eq plugs from algorithmix have lots of rewiews in "prosound web" forums and I know for sure that Bob Katz gave the linear eq a very god rewiew!

I guess their prices are loosely "justifed"

I was sent a demo of both the red and orange algorithmix EQs and have to say that they do sound very good. They are excellent for cutting sharp notches without disturbing the overall color of a song. For mastering I'd say they are some of the best around.. but on prosound web some even prefere it over the Weiss EQ Mk2 which I personally find absurd and insane (I much prefered the weiss). Anyhow, the plugins are even considered rather 'cheap' when compared to other equipment in a proper mastering facility.
