anyway, video was ok, kinda interesting, but im with Bones on this. Ive ssen a few of these blokes, and they are fun to watch for a bit, the process and technique is good, but not the kinda thing you would go to actually listen to tho.

My electronic keyboard rendition of "Camptown Races" in a Bluegrass style is indeed most amusing

Seriously though, my stuff is all squarely aimed at the educational market and recordings are the property of my publishers... hence nothing in the Cafe.

Funny that you have nothing there either, dude

But I've been branching out recently, so who knows what horrors I may yet unleash on you all

Sorry to be on topic, hehehe ... :hihi:

I like what kid beyond did. Technically and musically. OK, more technically but the music is still interesting to me. I never saw "one of these guys" and I enjoy it a lot. I gotta check the web to find some of his music.

My thoughts exactly, fritzman.

I also don't understand what BONES said, as without setting the gear up on stage there's no show ? And weather it's set up for showmanship or not, is not important as his gear is intristically connected with his music.

Kid's 'thing' isn't my cuppa but it's impressive none the less. Reminds me of Bobby Mcferrin. If the Kid can be as funny live as Bobby, I'd go a see his gig .

There's really no denying the cleverness or the musicality of what the Kid is doing here... it's great. But I'm curious to know where it goes next... I mean, after a couple of tracks like this, what's left to do (artistically)?

LOL , your egos got touched , don't like slaps back ?. it was more fun, when it was you saying that crap, wasn't it ?

just what i thought

you're not very bright are you?

I didn't comment on the music either way - I merely pointed out that if i put food in my mouth, eventually, poo comes out of my bum. sorry if that was too earth-shattering for you, but I think you'll find I'm right...

More tracks? Just because he records his loops with a microphone and puts them in layers the songs doesn't have to sound the same, you know? :)

Kinda like wondering where an acappella group should go after a couple of tracks, because there's nothing left to do artistically.

Even if he might be hyped because of his means, it doesn't mean that he can't actually start focusing on songs (using the same means) as well.

the guy`s got skills

than again i know many people who can play one hell of a bluegrass riff on a banjo and i wouldn`t give a penny to watch them.

I did enjoy the video. Nice to see how people make live music with loops. To be honest you can do the same with just a ancient akai sampler and a midicontroller. (ok perhaps you have to sit while doing it)

I would like to see him do more than just throw in a different loop every 4 - 8 or 16 measures. I think he`s got the talent and imagination to do so.

Actually, if you watched all the way through, the last livw track seemed to be more of a rocky blues type number. Seemed okay to me. Better than some bands Ive seen.
An idiot on Set Theory:

yeah ... if he allowed himself to break the 'dont touch the laptop' rule he could probably do much more diverse and interesting stuff ... even with all the MIDI > keystroke mapping going on theres only so many actions you can make with that number of pedals ...

slainte :ud: rob

...then he should get more pedals...

(dance you f**ker! dance!)

I think the additional MIDI program he's using kinda deals with the limitations of the pedals...?

Yeah, I get it that he could do lots of musical styles - like the accapella comparisson - but I'm not convinced from the video that he does or is likely to. Certainly I think he has the talent. I would just be real interested to know where he goes <thinks aloud>

That's just as true of a zillion other artists of course

As it is I enjoyed the video but not really sure I would enjoy the full show. Unless there is *something else* I'm sensing I would come away thinking it was a bit of a freak show rather than a satisfying musical event. But that's probably got a lot to do with musical taste anyway

only to a certain extent ... unless hes getting pretty clever and has one or more pedals mapped to switch the mappings on the rest of them hes still limited to a number of keypress chains equal to the number of pedals physically available ...

slainte ;) rob
