Is Logic 5.5 (PC) still a smart choice in 2005 ?

Yep. But having environment you don't really need that. All those fancy things like arpeggiators, step sequencers, micro tuners etc. can be implemented. BTW environment object Touch Tracks is (IMHO) the most underrated feature of Logic (basicly it allows for Ableton Live like sequence triggering/playing - perfect for live performances).

Might be true along with Live, but with any VSTi the environment objects are working rather badly... let alone the fact that the arpeggiator isn't exactly what you'd expect from a modern arpeggiator.FEV wrote: Yep. There are 3 kinds of people:

What do you mean?Sascha Franck wrote: Might be true along with Live, but with any VSTi the environment objects are working rather badly...

If you are talking about the "built-in" arpeggiator module, than I agree. It's a crap

Record a chord. Run it through an arpeggiator cabled to a VSTi. Now start Logic at the very same position the chord is at... most likely you'll get a massive blast of notes on pressing start.FEV wrote:What do you mean?Sascha Franck wrote: Might be true along with Live, but with any VSTi the environment objects are working rather badly...
From my experience, arpeggiators (well, actually it's more like the virtual instrument...) need a while to "establish".
This is way better when dealing with MIDI plugins in Cubase. And you can play them in stop mode too (which is impossible in Logic).
Sure. You can do nifty things, such as cabling different outputs of a chord memorizer to different arpeggiators and the likes. Pure craziness! But as said, it's not working all that well with virtual instruments... and you can't use multiple virtual instruments at once in realtime (this has only been adressed in 7.0).If you are talking about the "built-in" arpeggiator module, than I agree. It's a crapBut I was talking/writing about creating your own (more sophisticated) structures (including arp's) with other environment objects (delay, transformer, ...).

I have been using 5.5 when the update was available..
I always wanted to upgrade to a more recent studio..but it never crashed,or no errors.....But I am looking..
Just why change..??
I am not into effects..If I upgrade to a new studio and If it crashed or error's..I will hang myself..

Some things not working in "stop" mode can also be a bit annoying. Oh, and one of the things that made me buy EnergyXT (to compliment Logic ofcourse
No,no,noSascha Franck wrote: Sure. You can do nifty things, such as cabling different outputs of a chord memorizer to different arpeggiators and the likes.
IIRC there was a quite useful arp (alongside with other things such as analog style step sequencers, hardware synth control panels, plugin parameters randomizers and stuff like that) somewhere in the Logic User Group "repository". It (arp) was constructed out of Delay Lines network + lots of Transformers. Basicly you only need: Delay Line (for sequencers), Tranformer, Fader, Cable Switcher, Ornament (for cables grouping) and Monitor (for debuging) to do almost anything regarding midi data processing. The rest is not that important
Why not? Well not in "stop" mode, but in "play" it's possible.Sascha Franck wrote: Pure craziness! But as said, it's not working all that well with virtual instruments... and you can't use multiple virtual instruments at once in realtime (this has only been adressed in 7.0).
