*sigh* I've been doing this for over 10 years, i simply thought it would be a great idea.

ok snipe snipe, he has an idea for a tool that saves time, it hardly means he doesn't listen

unless you do all your work with some wacky text/scripting tracker editor or code assembly music for the demo scene or some crap, you also use shortcuts when you could just substitute 'experience' and 'listening'. tools like an arrange window, a scrub wheel, a 'select region'

geez

Logic's native EQ does this (spectral plot overlayed on the EQ area). It's not useful to me (just eye candy) but I know people that find it extremely useful.

nonono not an EQ. We don't want the EQ. i just think it would only encourage experienced people as well as newbies.

Why don't you just use multiple instances of analyzers, one for each instrument or group?
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Post

because i think it would be "cool" to see them all overlaid in the same window.

you can say im sniping, but it's really not. If you have been doing this for over 10 years, you should know your frequencies. the best producers I have worked with can tell you the frequencies that bother them just by listening.

I dont think the tool will realy save time. If you think about it. Just because it shows you the frequencies doesn't mean if you adjust them to work in the analyzer it will sound how you want it.

a slect region or a scrubber is a shortcut. this is not.

Post

Because it's not the same as having them overlayed in a single window? :)

Seriously, people seem to be against a simple idea that might come in handy for a lot of people.

And no, VST specs shouldn't be bent excessively to realize something like this - although, getting a big number of plugin instances to communicate like this may rise some issues... but plugins already exist that do it, so certainly it isn't impossible.

okay so that new release of the spectral analyzer XL stuff is all useless?

give me a break.

i know arent there other multi-IN vst's?

I could swear it was possible.

Well
Posihfopit can almost do such a thing.
You put one instance of posihfopit in each track, and it has a feature which makes that you can see every curve of each instance in a single window.
But what's missing is the visualisation...
almost good !

USELESS NONSHORTCUT.

hey, everyone's an expert

i wanna hear the great tunes you guys must be cranking out, i've got around 10 years experience too, from 4-tracks through ADAT to Cubase (all for fun only) and my tunes stink, and I need all the help i can get, ears or not

Post

I just think knowing the frequency range of the instruments you are recording should be more important. if you know those things, why would you need a visual?

Post

exactly. freaking you guys should just not post. use your golden ears. i wouldnt be relying on the freaking spectral analyzer, but it would help me to plan out my canvas. like a strategic tool.

sheez.

it would also let me plan muddiness. some musical styles such as shoegaze encourage it :)
