Why can't EXT handle ANY audio without crackling?

Even if i import samples from the browser! (or record).

When i reopen the project, and play the song the audio crackles (BAD) upon the first pass through.

Is this just my setup? I really love ext and the second i enter the audio file realm ext becomes useless for me..

Because of this problem i tried to go back to sonar, but i just missed ext so much that i decided to try one more time to get this straightened out..

This is the one thing from holding me back.

HI

There is a conflict somewhere - I was just using XT with 5 audio tracks and no crackle or pops.

I have been working on a project for a few weeks with several audio tracks and never had any problems UNLESS my cpu is maxxing out - at which point most if not all hosts will snap, crackle and pop.

Flipper.

My audio crackles sometimes on first use after opening eXT.

I just click Setup, reselect the ASIO driver and click oK. I guess it is some sort of initialisation problem.

no problem here with about 30 tracks

I don't use eXT, but my host does crackle when I first use it after booting up the computer. I quit the host, and run Crap Cleaner and then it's fine. Worth a try.

It's gotten better when priority was given to the audio thread... but eXT still crackles here... and it's definately related to the GUI. I can have a single audio loop going.. whiz around in the gui.. and crackle crackle... just not a frequent as before. It's still pretty disurbing tho and kinda halts me from working with it standalone nearly as much. :(

Live, Tracktion, Podium, Bidule don't crackle at all for me...

Yes i would really like to figure out whats going on.. I have a very nice soundcard and an athlon 2500+.. Shouldnt crackle at 7% cpu!

Perfect audio here too!

Its worth running msconfig and turning off all the startup items except Updreg.

This can make a huge difference. If something you need stops working - just run it again and turn it back on.

Mostly you just speed up your pc and get loads of system resources back. :)

I get crackles o' plenty in Tracktion, but never in energyXT. I was assuming that it was a graphics driver thing because when there's less being redrawn, the crackling goes away.

please Sturgeon - it's fine that it works for you and all - but please don't come in every thread where people mention their problems regarding eXT's performance and tell them something like:

'it works for me so it must be your pc which isn't optimized' - maybe you should just stay out of these threads as it isn't helpful for anyone if you post here. ModuLR e.g. is a developer (and a Tracktion beta-tester) himself so one might assume he knows how to set up his machine, no?

Just because it works for you that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with eXT.

Do you use ide or sata drives?
The reason for asking is that i bought a sata drive and had problems with regular noises thru my sound card.
After i installed some other drivers for my sata my problems went away.
And how much memory do you have and what are the latency of your asio drivers?

I don't know if your Athlon uses any sort of the PowerNow technology (or whatever AMD calls the technique that adapts the CPU speed to CPU load requirements), but on my Athlon 64-based laptop I nearly always get crackles because of that on the first run. In eXT as well as Renoise. A workaround for that is to lock the CPU clock at the highest level for the time of working with audio, but I don't do that as my lappy gets very hot that way.
