We're on the brink of getting Philharmonik, and ST 2.1 will follow shortly along with a host of other goodies. Amidst all the discussion of these new toys, Squids has mentioned that an update to SS2 will also occur at some point in the future. I thought that this therefore might be an opportune time to start a thread where we discuss possible additions/modifications we would like to see made to SS2, great though it is already.

I recognize that being tied to the ST engine will limit to some degree what can be done with SS2. Some features that are common in synths (e.g., arpeggiators) would be sort of useless in ST. So I recognize this issue, and I'll keep most of my suggestions fairly general, but this probably won't stop me from making impractical suggestions.:)

Anyway, here are some of mine:

(1) More types of filters, and greater flexibility in using these filters. Also, it would be nice if the extra filters in the effects section could also be tied into the LFO's.

(2) More ways to create movement. Other than the LFO's and a couple of the effects, there aren't many ways to create movement in the sample you're working with. It would be nice if there was some way to trigger various individual sounds at different points in time while playing a combi. It would also be nice if there was some way to cause sounds to repeat. Some of the samples have this built in, like some of the repeating percussion sounds, but it would be nice if the user could create his or her own tempo and pattern.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but I'll let others chime in now if they have any.

Adding a delay and retrigger parameter to the envelopes would do this. I think they should become standard parameters for all envelopes everywhere! Of course with host tempo sync as an option...

Another thing Squids mentioned was that he wants us to request specific patches from hardware workstations. We could list those in this thread also. I requested Mystic Guitar from the Fantom. Any other hardware like patch requests?

Indeed there are (posted elsewhere previously):-

Korg M1: "Universe". Haha that was the default preset combi I think and probably the only M1 sound I can remember. Actually I made a fair replica using SS2 sounds already but would be nice to have the real thing if possible :)

Roland U20: "Strings". My first rompler and how I wish I hadn't sold it. Ah well. But what I remember is the smoothest strings sample for its time. May not have been that realistic but it sure was nice :)

Korg Wavestation: "Deep Atmosphere". I still own this synth - how could I sell this one ? Answer I could not of course. Anyway, rather than sample this particular preset, what I'd like are perhaps more subtle floaty/swishy and/or tinkly sounding and possibly evolved sound 'elements' that I can layer with any basic pad-style sample (choir/strings/analog/whatever) thus to be able to create custom sounds of the type embodied by "Deep Atmosphere". :hyper:

I would definitely like to second the stuff Mallory is asking for! That stuff all sounds great also! This is really the strength of SS2 and it should play more to that strength. Mallory, are you willing to share the replica of Universe you created? I'd love to check it out! :)

Well, you could try and compensate your loss with the Symphony Strings :violin: Expansion Tank.
With ST2 under the hook and all the possible tweaking you may find yourself happy again...

Certainly, I actually posted the 'recipe' on this very forum a while back. I think I was asking if there would be a place for users to share combi presets and I'm sure Squids said something like this may yet happen.

Mind you, I should add that I sold my M1-R many years ago hence my replica was designed to imitate what I remember the patch sounding like :D

I actually have that already and, to be sure, some of those Strings sounds are lovely - I particularly like the first one "A Large String Ensemble". I guess it was first in the list for a reason  Anyway, the U20's string sample wasn't so realistic but it was really smooth and so far I haven't found anything else that sounds similar.

I had an M-1 back in the day and, like Mallory, the "Universe" patch is the one sound from that synth that I remember, though I must admit I only have a vague recollection of it these days.

I bought a Korg Poly Six when those things first came out. What a breakthrough that was, six-voice polyphony with the ability to save presets for around $1,500. I remember loving the string ensemble sounds from that. It had that "Ensemble" effect that created a nice string sound. You could do some nice one-finger string accompaniment with that thing. It sounded great to me at the time, not sure how the sound would hold up today. I tried the Korg Legacy Poly Six demo but the strings didn't really sounds as good to me as I remembered. Not sure if they failed to accurately capture that sound or whether my memory of that sound is better than it actually was. :?
