big band sounds2005-08-18T22:35:43+00:00I'm just listening to 'Ella and Basie' for the first time in a long while. What an album . And naturally I'm stupidly starting to think 'give me a few big band samples and I can do that'.
Is there something? I've looked and can't find anything.

I actually have thought of the following approach (but have not put it to practive yet)
* Collect many many different solo instrument VSTi's, soundfonts, etc
* Build sections from the solo instruments, like it would be in the big band. So record the notes of each track again, because the timing & velocities of different instrumentalists in the section should be slightly different.
* Detune each track (or note!) slightly. Absolute correct tuning for slide-trombone is killing for the sense of reality. The more detuning, the more amateur the big band is.
This way you should get "perfect" result, since you need the imperfection introduced by each human being (and his instrument) participating in the big band.
A lot of work, for which I don't have the time currently. But you may use "my" concept
