4/4 is for programmers not musicians. :P
Would you care to elaborate ?
Im mainly just being an ass, but just about every song I write has at least one part that changes meter, even if just for 1 measure. If the host cant handle meter changes gracefully(a'la sonar) then Im not interested...

You can make any pattern any length id it will fit next to any other [patter in the Playlist, you just need to change the CGF to 1 so each bar will have 16 incriments to slide about with...like this...

then if you want you can merge all those patterns together...

but that is just one pattern that is a different length. In most cases if you switch meter, *every* pattern will be different. I guess looking at yer example its possible, but in sonar I can insert a meter change at any measure I want, and plugins like jamstix will know that Ive changed meter and follow it. It looks like in orion, the sequencer is still in 4/4 so plugins that generate their own data from what the sequencer is tell it will not also change meter. I could be wrong about orion, but it still doesnt look as simple as it is in sonar.

you just change to 'snap to every nth' and it should work...dont know, i only use 4/4 ;)

I see what yer saying and it looks like it would work, but it seems a bit akward to me...

Post

Well, its a bit fiddly, would be easier to just set a really long pattern length and record you notes manually i guess?

Post

yeah that would work, plus I could always rewire ORION into Sonar which handles things the proper way :P :hihi:

The thing with the different signatures is that the playlist looks like it's 4/4, but the playlist is relative to the set signature. So if you use 16 beat patterns in 4/4, it looks same in the playlist as it looks when you'd be using 12 (or 24) beat patterns in 3/4 signature.

However you're right, combining different signatures is a bit pain as playlist works in only one signatures (atleast for the moment). You can quite easily change signature i.e. from 4/4 to 3/4 for a moment if you keep the 3/4 part so that it's beat length can be divided with 16. I.e. four bars at 3/4 is same as 3 bars at 4/4. So put two 24 beat patterns and it takes perfectly 3 bars.

I wish it handled odd signatures and tempo changes better. I also wish it did a better job of exporting to MIDI. I get some strange results at time. But, OP has to be the easiest scratch pad I ever used. It has what Reason does not, polyphonic pattern sequencing. For that reason I will put up with deficiencies and hope they are addressed in updates.

OP is so dead easy to use I recommend it to anyone starting out.

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Better in what way? I think handles those quite well. Tempo can be automated, no problems with that except for VSTs and such which don't always like tempo being changed. But that's not Orion's fault.

Care to clarify? It's been working very fine for me. Midi export and import.

Well, actually, I hate the way it tacks on a header with Program Change and Volume information, especially as ORION has no tools to remove them. But then, if you're exporting you probably don't need to edit in ORION. It would be nice if we had some kind of MIDI editor. I like the way Jorgen has done it in eXT, its simple and elegant and seems to me like a very obvious thing that a lot of people would find use for. Not me, but a lot of people. And automating tempo is nowhere near as handy as being able to insert a tempo change into a list of MIDI events. But again, I never change tempo so I don't care.

somehwre in my mind i wish rich and jorgen would bang heads, you gotta admit that together bones, ext and orion is more than enough for any musician.to have the features somehow merged and fully functional both ways if you get me would blow any of the other hosts out of the water.
