I've been using Digital Performer for a couple of months now and I've still yet to produce anything I'm satisfied with. The program is too big. It takes too long to do anything. I get the feeling that it's supposed to be used only for recording bands and stuff and thats not what I want to do. I'm trying to make electronic music. I need something that does things quick. Am I using the wrong program, or am I just not using the one I have right?

I feel like I'm trying to fit a square peg in a circular hole. I need something that minimizes the time I spend connecting this and that and shuffling windows around. By the time I'm done with all that I don't really care about music, I'm trying to organize all the damn computer things in my head. I've made better tracks in FL Studio. Is there anything that works in a similar way for Macs?

I dumped DP for Tracktion and never looked back...

I don't know anything like FL for Macs, but have you tried Tracktion? Or maybe Live or Numerology? Both Tracktion and Live are fairly easy to get started with and produce quick results.

I've never tried Numerology (don't have a Mac) but always thought it looked kind of cool.

I was looking at Tracktion as well. I also found Intuem and after looking over it at the website it looks really nice. It has a lot fo the features I liked in DP minus a lot of the unwanted complexity. Anyone know anything about it?

I just loaded up the Numerology demo and I was already amazed. It took about 2 seconds for it to start up. It just blew me away since I was used to having to wait about 3 minutes for DP to warm up (which is fun when it crashes every half hour).

Tracktion? Highly recommended :) Workflow is intuitive and smooth. Despite some bugginess, for the most part it's a stable program. Definitely check out the demo to see if it's your thing.
Being productive in it is not restricted by workflow issues so you can work as fast as you care to.

i'm a bit confused by your post but i'll give you my thoughts...a lot of people like logic on the mac but i hated it...i found DP pretty easy but never really did a project on it, i didn't have access that long, it was awhile ago...to me, by far, the easiest program is protools on the mac...however, most people who use PT do record bands and such, i think DP and logic are better suited for synth music (for example DP has a virtual contoller window where you can build little fake programers for synths right within DP, totally easy to use/no suprises) PT is just plain easy to edit, record, route, etc, the easiest i've used...but everyone has their own tastes...i've noticed that people onthis site who slam protools and champion lesser known hosts and vst stuff and such have programming backrounds, i'm not totally ignorant but as far as pc stuff i'm a beginner...it really depends on what you feel comfortable with...if i was doing mac, i'd do protools...you should be able to do your synthesis on synths and record with recorders (unless you want to go the logic route....)

Although I don't use either myself,Ableton Live or Reason sounds like what your looking for for creation and getting things started. If DP supports ReWire you can ReWire either Live or Reason to DP and use DP as your main linear audio program and use either Live or Reason for everything else.

tracktion is quick & simple.
Electtronic music ableton live for beat mangling etc & reason is also great for banging ideas down & noodling around. - both ableton & reason are great for farting around when you have no inspiration & ending up with soemthing as if by magic.

Looks like Ill be spending the next few months trying out all these demos...
