What program do you use to mix a song? I currently only use Live 4 for production, but I want to start mixing my songs and need an program with a nice mixer, where I can see all levels and can quickly adjust plugins and easy make aux busses.
What do you use?

Then you will not be satisfied with Traktion. The absence of a mixer makes some people go nuts! Although it has every single facility you'd need and find in a mixer. On each track a fader, VST insert slots to mess with, etcetera. A VST called Senderella can double as aux send, although there are other techniques to do that.wuzun wrote:need an program with a nice mixer
Isn't Live capable of mixing itself? Should say so...

Making aux busses is simple in Live. You know how to use the return tracks, right?
For the other stuff, you're probably better off with another host.

Ditto. Especially now that they've upped the automation resolution in 8.2 (what is it now? 16 or 32 bit?). Object based effects and processing is a GODSEND when mixing. Baby if they make the midi and the automation a bit better (a la logic)audiolife wrote:Best program for mixing so far is Magix Samplitude

Mixing in Ableton Live is simply fantastic. It's simple... and it's fantastic. I can't think why you would even consider needing something seperate
I have mixed projects in Cubase SX, Adobe Audition, Reason, Mackie Tracktion 2...
...but Live 5 is BY FAR the best of these for mixing, with simple unlimited aux/send bussing, the most flexible Freeze function, simple levels, accurate metering, great automation including all VST paramenters...
I just don't see what you could need that's really missing
If you want a more COMPLEX mising environment, then of course Samplitude, Logic, Pro Tools, Sonar, etc, give you an environment that is
* much more difficult to master
* will involve many more hours of your time to work out and use
* will undoubtedly get you just as good results in the end...
... with the satisfaction of knowing that you really have spent a very long time getting it so good

What I do is use logic for production and the "draft" mixing so I can burn copies and have a listen to how my track is coming along, and then when it's time to make the final two-track for CD i export every single track in 24bit waves and do the mixdown in samplitude (eagerly waiting for Mactels so i can buy one and use the logic 7 export all tracks feature). That gives me MANY benefits in the mixing stage. That said I justify the cost of buying a separate package ( actually I use samp at a mates

Trying to understand this post but I will address the more difficult to master part " ok you load up Sonar 4 create a song with many Vsts DXIs, effects ect...and different routing busses for outboard gear" And the question is what program would let you manage all this on one screen with ease?
My pick would be Sonar 4 , Ive had Logic "sold it"
Samplitude "still have it buried somewhere" Cubase "Like the GUI but hate the cpu bite"
And the number 1 reason I use Sonar is ease of use and total control.
Heck to get to the mixing console on Sonar 4 takes just 1 click of the mouse, from there everything is all striped on each track for easy viewing, Vsts effects aux s/r and total control from the mixing console over automation, all visible on the mixing console all functions a mouse click away, whats so hard about that?
Oh I tried the demo of Live a long time ago and never got used to it after using cakewalk. they dont call it cakewalk for nothing either its a snap to use.
Other products that work well with Sonar4 are XT , Project 5 "Dimension is a killer synth btw", Reasons 3 and Fruity Loops all can be Rewired into Sonarand with all the problems I see ppl having with one host after the next, Ive rarely seen problems with Sonar not that I havent crashed it cause I have but I blame that on me overloading it sometimes but overall I recomend in this order Sonar 4, Cubase, Logic, Samplitude,Live and Tracton.
