I guess this is too new, I know the strobo"stomp" is really catching on........

Oh, and I hate you for having a vs........ :hihi:
This may be your opportunity to turn away from hatred :D since the s/w is pretty affordable, even by s/w standards.

Some piano tuners do use electronic tuners to some degree but pianos are extremely fussy beasts to tune, which is why piano tuners still have jobs and will for some time. People (including a friend of mine) have written books about the subject and I can't really tell you in detail why, but suffice it to say that tuning a piano requires a lot of skill and human expertise, so it's more of a standard disclaimer that they would say 'everything except a piano'.

Thanks for that. Any info on the tuning interface? How do you read these things?

Check my response to your first post. The original interface is easy to read, but I don't know what else they've added in the s/w version.

Sorry I just looked at page 2 and thought you missed the interface part.

I think it is pretty clear that a demo is an important part of selling software. If someone is going to design software surely they have access to the internet and therefore realise how other companies promote. Maybe they are just assuming that their name is the selling point.

I am glad to read your comments though. Even though at the petersen site they are alluding to a demo your comments are pretty compelling.

Especially
Trust me, if you have an electric guitar or bass you want one of these and if the s/w works as well as the h/w it's a bargain. I may buy it just for the additional features once I learn more about it.
So are they really that accurate. I have a footswitch tuner but never use it. I use the one that comes with Amplitube and then some tweaking by ear. The big question is "if the software works as well as the hardware", but like I said, without a demo........

Your point is taken and it might be useful to email their c/s address and tell them---"wake up and smell the demo" :hihi: since maybe they just haven't thought about it. It's true that, since their technology goes well beyond run of the mill tuner technology, a demo of their s/w would be necessary to prove it. Also true for people who are familiar with their h/w since this is their first PC release. I might email them too.

Just to drive the point home, pretty much every guitar tech has a Peterson strobe sitting on their work bench so you know they are the standard.

Thing is, I never trust tuners alone. Not even Petersons. They are exact, sure, but very often (actually most often) a guitar properly tuned by ear is doing a better job. Even "feitenized" guitars don't help with that. Tuners are great for live and to get you to some sort of "neutral" spot. But that's about it. In a studio situation I *allways* retune some things by ear.
Having said that, for me Petersons are a waste of money. And yes, I am making my living with playing (*properly* tuned) guitars.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Peterson's are vary usefull for intonating guitars. Even "Feitenized" guitars. It is a must have for lutherie shops.

I don't agree that they are a waste if you want to do your own setups. If not, and you are just "stage tuning", maybe so. I'll still use them for everything, though.

From their forum
We currently do not offer a demo of the software. We are working on creating a version with limited functionality that can be used as a demo in the future. When it is complete, you will be able to download it from www.strobosoft.com.
Now I wait I guess.

I find my ability to tune a guitar fluctuates a bit. Depending on what is in my lungs and stomach. Also I work in a noisy place and sometimes my ears are not the best.

I certainly agree about no demo.........bummer indeed..........

Yes please let us know, that would be awsome.

How did the registration go?
Any cool alternate tunings?

Just for starters

Post

registration/download/activate is a breeze and it's instant!

the link is open for 72 hours to download, then you have to call.......so save a copy kiddies!

One thing that can be a concern........you can activate 2 times. They make a comment about activating it past that.......contact them, blah blah.......I hate challenge response.......

Works great, detuned my guitar, there is a "cents" and then the note (A2, B3....yada yada) and then the strobe, so you can watch all three to get it

sounds in tune to me.........I'm picky! So it's a good thing.

Have not done alt tunings yet, but will let ya know

Hows that for fast?

Post

Oh, haven't done the "buzz feiten" with my bass yet........
