Slight quandry about where to post this since it doesn't host VSTs - I figured here was best.
I came across this when looking at some free audio software sites today, and thought it looked like it might be quite useful for people who haven't got the free cash or inclination to spend it on the commercial audio editing software. It's in java, which I've heard is slow for involved applications but what the hell, least it allows easy cross-platform development.
Apparently has frequency domain editing, which I absolutely love about Audition and hadn't seen anywhere else before here - may make it a worthwhile alternative or supplement to Audacity or whatever. Anyway, link here.
Excerpt from the features list:
# analysis tools like spectrum view, measure tools, statistics, calculator...
# diverse waveform generators like signal-generator (rectangle, triangle, sinus...), harmonics generator, pitch generator, freehand generator with diverse interpolation features...
# divers amplitude functions like balance, divers fades, compress expand, distortion, autovolume...
# diverse sample-functions like constant and variable resampling (may also be applied to a selection only), diverse math functions, convolution, forward and inverse fast fourier transform (yes, you can edit the freqeuncy domain!)...
# some filters like parameter-filter, equalizer, multi-notch filter, FFT filter...
# a great spectrogram-filter, which allows to edit in spectrogram-domain, using a brush and rectangle tool to select shapes
# many audio-effects like multiple reverbs, delay-echo, chorus-flange, multipitch, disharmony, pitch shift, time stretch etc...
# a disharmony-plugin to completely disharmonize a sound in several ways
# mouse-stroke shortcuts! e.g. draw a simple "u" with the mouse to start the undo-history plugin...
# some plugins (effects and functions) accept a function curve as parameter, to perform variations in time of a parameter of that effect or function

I thought it was only linux, but I was wrong. Also windows. Looks intersting, there was another free editor I stumbled upon besides audicity that looked nice but I never found it again. thanks for pointing this out.

What a fascinating audio editor.
I can't actually get sound from it at this stage - still looking into that - but I like how it's using a graphic editor methodology. Interesting..

Ahhhhh - forget about it re: no sound.
I have a pesky partner who keeps turning off the sound to my speakers. Hence - no sound.
All is well again.

It doesn't seem to support 48kHz/24bit files. Or is it just a wave file header problem? My waves are exported from Sonar and I've had that problem before. They open fine in Audacity though. Anybody tried some 24 bit files?

www.prosoniq.net
though I dunno about stability over on os-X
its really groovy here on os-9
