Hello
Haven't posted in a long while, have been very busy. I have a question for Mac Users, I've purchased a new Mac (dual processor) and would like to know if any of you have suggestions on how to ease the pain of moving from one Mac to another. I'm using quite a variety of software plug-ins but for this forum I'll just mention DP 4.5 and SampleTank 2 XL. I'm concerned about about de-authorizing one machine and re-authorizing another with regards to programs like ST, I've never seemed to have much luck in updates etc., I guess I'm just a bonehead. I'm HOPING for a fairly smooth transition.

Kindest Regards

ps. I know that Apple is switching to intel but I need to update now, besides, by the time everything gets worked out, it will be time to upgrade anyway.

There's no real easy way to "move" your plug auth's from one machine to the other. That's the whole idea behind the "per machine" crap. The machine generates a unique ID from the hardware of your original machine. This is the real downside to the challenge/response copy protection crap. It doesn't change the pirates, they crack it quick anyway. So it isn't much better than a plain old serial number.

But this is a soapbox forum, so to answer you question, install your OS, patches for the OS, than your host(s), then any patches for the hosts, than you plugs one at a time and auth those plugs one by one.

Good luck,

Wayne

i tried to just copy over the folders from my old mac to my new, did the reauthizations (which is really not that big a deal), but they kept crashing logic, so you'll probably need to do what I did -- reinstall from the original disks... I did this for ST2, T-Racks and Amplitube.

you just need to put aside a day or so to get it all happening...

At the risk of starting another avalanche, this is the beauty of dongle protection.

Just install the software, plug in your dongle, and get to work.

Yeah, I know the downsides, too.

Thanks for all your responses, I appreciate the time. I assumed it could be a bit of a process and have allocated a couple of days for this. I'm also beginning to see the upside of dongles to some extent and it appears as though I may have to go this route like it or not as some software companies no longer support the authorization but rather iLok etc.

Zoing is right - you have to install the plugins on your new Mac from the original discs, and authorise them (just like the first time when you bought them).

I did this maybe twice already...never a problem when authorizing it. I guess it'll be even easier when the "Key" is out...then you just need to reinstall all the programs...and not worry about the authorizing part. :)

I'm up and running, thanks for the info. Man it's nice to be able to actually use ST2 to its full extent with the additional power I now have.
