Does Logic have an offline stream to wav now?
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I'd rather KNOW i've pushed the system too far and that i'll always get a clean result, instead of a host which tries anyway and starts sounding like a meat grinder.
No thanks. I don't need a pop-up window to tell me that the CPU is maxed.

Tracktion works the same way here - the cpu is in the red (more that 95% of cpu-usage) and still no crackles...
On a kt333? Maybe I should look into this Asio4all after all... You need to remove the native drivers first?

But then again, all five pci slot are filled here so it's probably not helping a mobo with known pci bandwith issues.

yes, I've got a kt333 mobo as well - and nope, you do not need to remove the native drivers - you can switch back and forth between the asio4all and the native ones or even run two apps at the same time where one of them is using the asio4all and the other one the native drivers... :-D 8)

- dunno about the pci-bandwith-issue though... :?

what latency?

128samples as stated above...

secondly, try a convolution reverb. PLEASE, humor me, try pristine space. remember my pristine space thread where logic PC was able to outperform tracktion x 3??
will do... (*off to download the demo*)

I tried PS - I think it's crap - the cpu-comsumption is jumping up and down all the time like a jojo - I think it's more unstable than any other plugin I ever tried - so no, I can't go in the red without crackles because when it's still in the green at one moment it's completely maxing out the next... (yes, I tried different impulses) - I will try S.I.R. instead...

I tried S.I.R but I can't load more than seven instances - the eight one won't initialize correctly - cpu-usage seems to be almost as unstable though
- so it seems to be in the nature of ir-algos - well for me that's just another reason not to use that kind of stuff... - to me it just ain't worth the hassle....

HI

I just got 15 instances at 128 on an RME with 7 instances of V1 synth running (2 per track/3 on another).

Audio is actually worse?

And I have a second SATA drive.

I am hopefull the incoming up-date will improve things and I don't think I have HT on either.

The SX version of Ambience appears to be much better on the CPU - although I didn't use that one!

Unfortunately I don't particularly like Sx!

It's all relative - if I had 64bit o/s & audio drivers to take advantage of the Xeon's (which I probably will next year) it would probably change things significantly - then again it won't be long before someone comes here with a dual-dual core which will without doubt be the most powerfull daw around.

Oh yes at about 9 Ambiences SX was in the red - and just kept riding that CPU hit as each Ambience was pilled on top - a true grafter.

And Logic 5.5 is NO better on my system in fact worse - I can get 5 instances and that it - although it is only using 50% of the power available.

 You don't beat around the bush, mate  . (I didn;t like it either, by the way. Then again, I don't like any of the voxengo stuff. Can't quite understand/explain why).

I know I joked about it earlier in the thread, ... but convolution really is one to add on a bus or at the mastering stage.

Have you tried Convo Boy? I'm thinking of looking at that as an alternative to SIR, although I do "quote" like SIR...

By the way, the Voxengo free impulses are quite nice, even if (like me) you don't actually like PS.

HI

The interesting thing for me was finding out that Xeons are apparently 64bit compatible - whatever that means.

I hope that a year down the line with 64bit Windows-ASIO drivers ect that I will get a new lease of life (power)out of my set-up.

The point people shouldn't miss here though is Logic/G5 is as close as it gets to hardware made for music software - I don't dispute that at all, I don't see why it should upset people either - unless the thought of ttoz getting a bit more ass than the rest of us for his money is somehow an affront?
