hello
I'm looking for a very good timestretch in order to applyt it on a whole track to make it a bit shorter.
The track has strong beats but also dub-style basses, and i don't want to lose at all in quality.
I have SoundForge, which has many timestretch options, but also ableton live (which doesn't seem to be the best tool), and Tracktion, but its timestretch algorythm is renowned to be crappy.
WHich one would you advice me to use for such a work ?
Is there any plugin whiwh rocks ?
I have heard about Pitchworks... ?
Thank you

From reading various interviews, Serrato Pitch N' Time is the only plug that I know of which producers have used on an entire mix. But I believe it's Mac only.sinkmusic wrote:hello

I haven't had a problem with the timestretching in FL Studio 5, except for it doing so automaticly to some samples. Sonar 4 does this too when you import.
Even just getting the demo and using it for stretching would be worth a try, then you can export to WAV or MP3.

Agreed, the SoundForge timestretch generally sounds terrible. For polyphonic material, you'll want an FFT/iFFT processor.
I wouldn't use a plugin unless you want to pay lots of money for Melodyne. One of my favourites for this is Jens Johansson's pvoc. It's a DOS utility, but does the job nicely.

Thank you a lot
I just want to make it 2 or 4 bpm faster, and was scary about the basses (70hz sinebass, 808 kick, real drums cymbals...)
i'll check if a functionnal demo of tiume factory is avalable on prosoniq site.

true, but at the bottom of the page they have several demos that you can DL. Open your audio file in zplane, stretch it, and record it into another app.ttoz wrote:that's not for the end user, it's for licensing in apps.soulkraka wrote:may want to check out zplane elastique.

I always thought live's timestretch was adequate rather than outstanding, so so must be zplane.

That's what FL is using now for timestretch.soulkraka wrote:may want to check out zplane elastique.

Seriously check out the pvoc utility. Don't be scared by it being command-line only. Just read through the web page and you'll have all the instructions you'll need to do it. It is based on the standard PVOC code designed at the University of Bath, which is likely at the base of most approaches out there. I've used it on some fairly complex polyphonic material with really good results.
You have nothing to lose, it is free. Just listen to the Frank Zappa samples they have on their site.

The AconAS dx plugin,. Syudio Time, is well priced and offers good results for SMALL stretch amounts. say 5%.
Time Factory by prosoniq is now in V2 and I think it has good reaults to about a 10% stretch either way. But it's incredibly pricey - 449 euro.
Chronostream by PSoft is an inexpensive (comparitively speaking) standalone application that seems to have results a bit better than Acon, but not as good as Time Factory. Don't believe Psoft's hype about it being the best and most advanced in the world. But it is good, yes.
And lastly, the best I have personally EVER tried, is waves soundshifter. a $1200 bundle (but can be found for around $700 with some searching), that has the best time and pitch stretch I have ever heard. I could honestly say lossles or near lossless enough to be unpickable, to around 15% stretch either way for an entire mix.
You also get a great transient shaper, doubler and vocoder in the bundle.
But, everything I have mentioned above is miles ahead in quality over live, acid, sound forge, sonar, etc.
Could you say how do these 4 compare to MPEX2 in Cubase/Nuendo?
I think that one is pretty good.
