Hello,
i want to talk about the rights and laws when making a sample cd.. how is it with non samplebased software synthis ? Am i allowed to sell the sounds i made as a sample cd ? With the years i made many many sounds with different VSTs, now i think about making a sample cd and selling them in different formats (soundfont, kontakt ect..) is that legal? I think it should be no problem, but maybe i´m wrong !?

All the info I have found basicaly says that as long as you arent sampling the orginal samples the synth uses and as long as you personaly wrote the patch that you are sampling its legal unless otherwise stated by your user agreement for said synth. But also note that things may be different depending on location.

Sampling softsynths is fine provided you aren't using factory presets (or presets by anyone who hasn't given permission), and it's not sample-based. Companies like Spectrasonics have been doing this for years, and while it's possible a softsynth manufacturer would not allow it, it really would be counterproductive for them to and I haven't really seen any examples of that happening.

If I remember right there was some thread where René from rgcaudio even said he LIKED this idea, if people made something like that out of his z3ta+, for example. Not sure, but as it's allowed anyways...

z3ta+ is sample based? I didn't think oscillator samples counted.

thanks for the explanations. Wasn't quite sure myself but thought I had read it some year ago at the rgcaudio-forum...Kriminal wrote:As long as something isnt sample based, it doesnt matter. Z3ta+ is, so you cannot sample it. Triangle isnt, so you can.
