Line 6 Goes Plug-In?

There's not much up on this webpage, and nothing even saying this is gonna allow for plug-ins. But considering this comes bundled with a version of Live, I'm thinking Line 6 may just have made a big step into the native plug-in market. It looks like this is gonna be software tied to hardware, but who cares, for Line 6 quality modelling I'll deal.

Anyway here's the link, discuss, speculate, flame, etc:

http://www.line6.com/toneport/

The quick lowdown is that this is at least a recording interface that somehow runs models of 16 guitar amps, 5 bass amps, a bunch of effects, then a few mic-preamp models including Neve, API, as well as a model of a Studer 2" tape machine. It comes in two flavors, one with two mic pre's and instrument inputs, and one with one of each (the smaller one doesn't appear to have phantom power). Again, the big question is whether or not though this allows for using the models as plug-ins for tracks already in a sequencer like a DSP card/Hardware interface hybrid, or if the sounds can only be used on the front end. This has a lot of potential, but they seem to be making of point of NOT stating where the modelling is taking place and how it will work, here's for hoping though...

I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I look forward to this, this may be what I purchase in lieu of the UAD card I have on my list...

Toneport looks pretty sweet. I've got my eye on WavesGTR also. http://www.wavesgtr.com

Cool stuff. It's sad that they never mention "VST"...I wish they'd release the Pod software as a VST. :)

Yeah!

They could hand-out 100 dollar bills while they are about it!

:hihi:

From what I gather dsp power is onboard, and its a glorified POD. Otherwise, I dont see why it would have SPD/F or analog outputs...

Post

I'm not sure if the DSP power is onboard, I don't believe it states that anywhere, and if you look at the Guitarport, it's very possible that the processing is done natively. It's quite possible this could work as a plug-in still with the hardware as a dongle (I don't believe Guitarport has ever been cracked). I'd need way more info on this though before allowing myself to get too excited.

I would really love to see a version with great host integration even if the actual DSP is done on hardware. Something more along the lines of UAD would be cool. Ideally the plug in part would work with a Variax also so you could change the sound of all models including the guitar model on the fly after recording the part. I emailed Line 6 about this but they never got back to me...

Yes, this thing IS scarry ! :o

This is no more a plug-in than the current Guitarport...

Wow, I will definitely consider this. I would love to be free from that god-awful Emagic software that you have to use with POD (2.0); I don't even use the "SoundDiver" anymore. This is more like it!

bduffy, soundDivet sux if you ask me...always losing itself...I had many problems getting it to open consistantly on either of my two machines. I have soundDiver for my QSR and it's the same case.

However, checkout the line six web page, they have they line six tone editor for pod 2.0 (and their other products)...I was real skeptical at first, I'm not sure if the page calls it a beta still, but it was when I downloaded quite a while ago(hmmm it's been a while, maybe even a year, I should check for an update)...it works flawlessly and I use daily, if I remember correctly I had no troubles with installation...if I did I dont recall them...;)

Right, but imagine that with a vst to remote-control it !
And the hardware as your soundcard and IO...

Than it would be very hard to beat !

Get out of town! I'll be sure to check it out - I used to check (and write support) frequently, hoping they'd ditch it, but I gave up as they kept updated that same old shitbox software. I was so frustrated with SoundDiver, vowed to use the hardware interface only. And now that I have the POD going through a really nice tube pre-amp, I don't have to tweak as much as I used to; I can usually get the sound I'm after. But I do miss on-screen editing.

But GuitarPort is for PODxt & up, correct?EDIT: Ignore question, I know the answer now. I'll download Line 6 Edit ASAP - can't wait to edit my patches again! Cool.

Thanks for the tip. :)

fwiw fl has a midiout preset for pod, that way it can be automated. Of course one can always record cc's to midi and autoumate pod with any sequencer, it's the same thing. But I can see where it would be cool for a vst.

It's my understanding you are working on such a vst, it seems that it's full of compition for the market right now....seems like the "in" thing this year...I think this time next year will prove to quite interesting to see what's still standing when the dust clears...good luck on your project... :D
