Cool - Bongos!
I'll have a look tonight if I have time.
The way it's laid out - would it be really easy for me to redo in velocity layers?

No, for the reason the samples are ‘hot’ so that the ‘tone’ can be played at small or max velocity per key.Caleb wrote: The way it's laid out - would it be really easy for me to redo in velocity layers?
Caleb
Some tones are recorded at a low velocity – (now if I were to have done a layered font so it only occupies (say two keys) I would leave the recoding as is and then place the next tone in the same key above it)
This font has the volume of the samples high – so that each tone can play the sample at any velocity – but retain the tone per key.
So no real benefit for you to layer on velocity as you would not gain by doing so with this sound set.
What you could do however is reassign the keys into tone zones – I have not done this deliberately so that anyone (pretty much that is) can hit any of the keys anywhere and get a bongo percussion going and have it sound realistic.

Would you like a 24 bit multi-sample wave set in the future to play with Caleb? I have been thinking about putting a sample set up for Bongos, say eight or more volocity samples deepCaleb wrote:Thanks Spe3d.

Yummy!
I like bongos actually. It gives your music a "sit around the camp fire" type of feel.
They are THE portable drums of choice I would think.

Spe3d, you're too nice
You'll probably, like, come to a horrible end and stuff.
I'll grab this cool-cat bongo set next week when I'm back at work and have broadband. Then . . . look out baby, it'll be time for a Ferlinghetti poetry slam!

Hi Spe3d,
Thanks for making this - I can't seem to get a good sound from my bongos with a Studio Projects B1, mainly because it's mono
, but possibly large diapraghms aren't good for percussion anyway.
Btw, what bongos are these?

I enjoy the ability to tap out a beat on something other than the car steering wheel or the desk – and be rewarded with not too loud, but a warm tone. And its great they can be moved very easilyCaleb wrote:Yummy!

Yes they are a little bigger in 24 bit, I am also re-recording some of the sounds and adding a few others too, like tuning and finger nail scrapes etc. nearly done, so will be ready in time for you to test your DSLemdot_ambient wrote: I'll grab this cool-cat bongo set next week when I'm back at work and have broadband. (I notice a pm
thank you jon, I use a number of different mics though its an ongoing process to get it just right. The Drums are pretty standard though not the cheapest, made of wood and real skin tops.pakana wrote:Hi Spe3d,

Thank you bitfreakbitfreak8 wrote:Sounds good. Thanks
there is going to be a 24 bit sample set for bongos that capture more of the different tones etc. very near to completion now

I meant can`trealmarco wrote: do you think I could get the raw sample of the harmonica...if I have to i'd roll my own...I can live without the "pfffft---Tweeeeeeeet""
how much latency ?...say a millisecond...enough to hear the actual blowing of each note
and since were talking abpout the harmonica, it would be really cool to have 3 velocity layers...hard,mild soft...and for each layer to have 3 samples so that in every sampler can do "round robin"(defefiniton below).
..so maximum authenticity would be reached
if you do it i`d send you a few bux for your troubles and im sure others would do the same
What is Round Robin ?
--------------------
its a function in sampler that switches between sample each time the key is triggered.it is similar to velocity switching but is a little more efficient in creating a authentic sounding patch
in a simple patch you would have a snare recorded and sampled real hard 3 times.....so that each time your press on the key it plays a different sample(soundfile) each time.
cause you know a snare(and most other acoustic, electro and some old synth) never sound exactly the same each time.
So in this Harmonica patch you would have three velocity layer...meaning when you hit the key hard it play a different samples than when you play mild or soft...so if you were to have 3 sample per velocity layer you would have 16 actual different recorded soundfiles
3- hard played sample
3- mild played sample
3- soft played samples
so each time you play hard it switches between the 3 different hard samples so you dont get that repetitive robotic "machine gun" effect
same for the mild and soft
I dunno about soundfonts but kontakt and gigga studio definetely have this function...im unawre of other samplers(because I don't own any others)[/quote]

This is a good reply as you have clarified what you mean – and I ‘now’ understand what it is you were getting at.
Good! that's cleared up the latency issue, I thought it odd to want silence. (which you don't, you want more samples and articulations)
So it is a combination of samples (amount, duration, breath, tremolo etc) and not (quality) (though to be honest quality is getting better all the time
Compared to the first set of samples I uploaded) combined with programming of the final patch.
Indeed the idea of ‘money’ is something that would entice me to do more layers and make a ‘proper’ commercial entity of it, due to the extra time involved, the more expressive samples, layers, etc. I considered it in the past, but the feedback indicated very few (maybe two) would be interested in purchasing samples and sound fonts (hence the friggin long pause before I started uploading stuff again) Now I think quality is better, and also if I want to progress further in samplering then some kind of revenue would be good to fund the sample side of things - so if expressive, Multi-velocity, multi-samples is what it would take – then heck, got to be worth a go
Your feedback is appreciated as you have clarified your point, and this info is 'valuable' and 'encouraging' to me, thank you realmarco.
Best regards,
Peter

The crucial info to the clarification – indeed when I opt for using different samples per velocity I often only use a different sample per note per velocity level range, so in this case one note would have three samples (one per level) , and in your example 9 samples, (three per level)I am not sure where the sixteen samples are coming from in your example, I will think it out and see if I understand what you mean there.realmarco wrote: So in this Harmonica patch you would have three velocity layer...meaning when you hit the key hard it play a different samples than when you play mild or soft...so if you were to have 3 sample per velocity layer you would have 16 actual different recorded soundfiles
