how to remove drums from a track?

The problem with drums is that they can (and often are) panned all over the place, not to mention spread across the entire frequency range - extremely difficult to remove them! (It's hard enough to do it with vocals)

indeed, drums are spread all over...
vocals never really work, drums would be really impossible. a snare for example does already have almost every freqenty equal (some old drumcomputers did simply use some white noise as snare
)
and the kick often fluids into the bass...

Errm......
don't think that exists, and if it does, it might not work that well.
Drums are indeed in all frequencies, so it must be pretty difficult to remove them without leaving any artifacts.

If you have a sample of the drums used in the songs, or a drum-beat intro, you could potentially gather a noiseprint of the offending drums and use a fingerprint-based noise reduction process to remove them.
Adobe Audition does a lovely job.. but, like neik and larry say, drums work over alot of frequencies so you might find it sounds a bit like a frequency gate, cutting out the frequencies where the drums are hit.
I might have a go when I get home, as long as the tune has a drum intro it should be ok.
